Could anyone tell me how I go about obtaining birth certificate or baptism details for Alfred Carine born 23rd September 1876 Port St Mary Isle of Man. I have no other details of parents. This information came from his merchant Seamans ID card. Many thanks

Hi, The only Alfred Carine found was Alfred Welsh Carine. Supposedly he was born about 1876; christened 19 Oct 1902, village of Bradda, civil parish of Rushen, Isle of Man.
This one was living with his grandmother, Ann Carine on the 1881 Isle of Man census. Ann Lowey was married to John Carine. They had a son, John Thomas Carine who married Margaret Comerford. They had Alfred Welsh Carine.
Cannot find one who was born in Port St. Mary though.

Hello margie,

thanks very much for that information. I had picked up that entry fromthe census but obviously didnt have any further details.
I have his father as John Carine ableseaman (deceased) from his marriage cetificate in 1915, so may well be one and the same. I wonder why he was christened so late?
Any way something for me to be going on with.

thanks again the help is greatly appreciated.

Best wishes

Diane

Hi, my Grand-dad was a Carine and also a merchant seaman. He was in Liverpool at the start of the Second World War, then moved to Romford. My Mum has told me that my relatives were lighthouse keepers on the Isle of Man and then went on to become Lord Mayor of Liverpool. Another family name was the Crosses.
