Does anyone remember when the Meyer Bros. Department Store in Paterson,NJ closed. I know they also had one in Wayne that I believe closed at a later date.

The Meyer Bros. Department Store in Paterson , NJ closed 1982 or 1983 I was a stockboy in the Wayne Store at this time.

I remember Meyer Brothers...the precursor to Macy's if I remember correctly. When I was a kid, my Mom used to shop there all the time. There, and practically next door "Sterns-Quackenbush".

A previous response to you said they closed in the early 80s. Sounds about right, tho I hadn't been there since the 60s.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, Quackenbush was across the street from Meyer Bros. However, I don't think that Sterns was connected to the store.

We used to do all our back to school shopping at Meyer Brother's when I was a kid. My mother got her purse snatched there just before they moved down the shore in 1986 so it was still open then.

I remmember shopping there with my mom,there was a Mr Peanut store down the sreet,But Meyer Bros burned down in 1991

Meyer Brothers, Paterson store closed in 1987, and the Wayne, NJ store closed June 5, 1995. The store had been a commercial fixture in “Silk City” since the 1880s. The establishment was founded by Aaron, David and Leopold Meyer, enterprising dry-goods merchants from Newark. Originally, they traded under the name of the “Boston Store.”

Can you tell me if Meyer Bros records would include the name of employees in the 1930s.

I think I am a decendent of David Meyer. Not sure if this is the right store, but I was told that my grandfather and his brothers opened this store. Where can I get more details about the store.
