COWLES, Edgar A. 1900 marriage in Grand Blanc

Ada FROBISHER (adopted name DENTON) was born in Grand Blanc in 1874 (source: Genesee birth records). She was raised by her step-father, Emory DENTON and mother, Alice JEFFERY. In 1900 she married Edgar A. COWLES. Edgar was born in Minnesota and at the time of their marriage was listed as a dentist in Spencerville, OH (source: Genesee marriage records).
I'm interested in finding anyone who might know Edgar and Ada or any possible children. I've lost Ada...can't find her in the 1900 census anywhere.
Thank you very much!
jamie

I hope my people are connected to yours. Mr great grandmother was Bessie COWLES, b ca 1850 at Holyoke, MA. She married my gr grandfather Fredrick Dorpin CRANE in Michigan. They had 2 boys Roy B. and Ray Clayton CRANE. Bessie (COWLES) and Fredrick are both buried at Linden, MI. My grandmother is Beatrice O'DELL, b. ca 1875 at Grand Blanc, MI. Beatrice and Ray Clayton CRANE married about 1906 and lived at Flint, MI until 1912. Beatrice's parents were Harrison O'Dell and Esther Valentine (or Ballentyne???). My mother had a number of spelling variations of her surname. Beatrice's siblings were George Ward, Charles, Elmer and Myrtle(?) O'DELL. I'm away from home and am relying on memory for most of this but will reply to any messages after 1st June.

Hi Ray,

Not sure if the COWLES families are one in the same, sorry. I have found Edgar as a child in the 1860 and 1870 census records. His parents are William and Mary (very original!). They are in Janesville, Waseca Co, MN both years. In 1860 there is a little girl named Ella who is 2 years old. She does not show up on the 1870 census...could be that she was away from home or had died. But, there is no mention of a daughter, Bessie...Elizabeth...etc.
That both Edgar and Elizabeth ended up in Grand Blanc seems a coincidence for certain! However, I have had the hardest time finding either Ada or Edgar after they were married...so I'm not sure what happened to them.
I'm sorry I couldn't help you. Thank you for replying to this post though. I'll keep Bessie in mind!

Hi Jamie,
Sorry my reply has taken so long, had a bout in the hospital with appendix - imagine, at 73 years.
Thanks very much for your help. You've given me more names to watch for, none of which I recognize right now. Unfortunately my mother couldn't give me any earlier names than her grandparents, i.e. Bessie COWLES. It's very timely info, though, as a cousin from Dallas is planing a genealogical holiday to MI.
Again, Thanks,

Ray, in Nanaimo

Ray,

Just wondering if you're still researching the Crane family. I'm looking for information on the same branch, so please let me know if you'd like to exchange information.

Thanks!

Hi, just a quick note to let you know that Ada and Edgar did not have any children. She died but not sure when, or where. He remarried and had one daughter from that marriage. Good luck on the rest.

Hi Ruthann,

Just wondering, I'm assuming (I know...never assume...but) that since you aren't working on Ada's line that you must be working on Edgar's line? I have found where he married a second time, but where have you found that Ada died? Did she die before he remarried? or were they divorced? I had always thought she probably died, but have never found any real evidence on that fact. If you have something would you mind sharing it with me? I am a niece of hers and am really interested in finding info on Ada! Thank you Ruthann!

Hi, you are right, Edgar was a brother of my great grandfather. I far as I know Ada died long before he remarried. His daughter was born in 1920 when he was quite elderly. His daughter just died last winter.
I'll have to go through my Cowles info and see if I have any detailed info for you. It might take me a while but I'll get it. Thanks. RA

I havent' found any info about her death, but did find that Edgar liked to move. When they married he lived in Spencerville, Ohio. In 1910 he was in Texas.
I'm reading the old newspapers, it takes me awhile but I'll keep plugging away at this, perhaps, it'll mention in the local paper that his wife died. If not then perhaps, they divorced.
I'll be in touch.
