Hiram's parents were James
Fewell and Sidney
Cole. James' parents were Rev. Benjamin
Fewell and Nancy Ann (
Walle) Wall. Benjamin's Parents were Henry Fewel (he use only one L) and Elizabeth Colvin. Henry's parents were John Fewel and Mary
Grigsby. John had either 3 or 4 brothers, all of whom used two Ls. Only John and a few of his descendants used the single L. Many of this line migrated to
Texas and changed back to "
Fewell" in later years. Henry's parents were Stephen (Ffewell)
Fewell and Katherine (Willyams)
Williams.
Stephen was the first known
Fewell in
America. He was born November 7, 1653 in
Southwick, St. Olive
Parish,
London,
England. He died before Oct 5, 1721 in Richmond,
Virginia.
He married Katherine abt. 1674. Stephen and Katherine are the common ancestors, through their sons, of most of the Fewells in the United States. They arrived in the American Colonies in
Virginia November 29, 1674. Stephen's father was William
Fewell b. about 1630 also in
Southwick.
I hope the above information is of some help for you. tgf
