I am searching for any neices or nephews of Mary Orrila, (BAKER) Potter. She and her Husband Charles E. Potter gained custody of Lucinda Baker of VanBuren Co. Michigan. She was born July 10, 1855 in Rome Twp., Lenawee Co., Michigan. Her father was Charles R. Baker of Lenawee and her mother was Philenda (BROOKS). She married Charles E. Potter at Fairfield, Lenawee Co., Michigan, Nov 26, 1885. This may have been a second marriage for her and was the second for him.

Her last residence was Onsted, Lenawee Co., Michigan.

I have information about a sister of Lucinda Baker, who was Caroline Baker. She married Henry W. Robinson and had several children. I have more information if you are interested.

In my husband's line, I have a Norman C. Baker married to Harriet Robinson 28 Dec 1835. He is son of Robert Robinson and Deborah Randall. Norman and Harriet had seven children: Hiram, Benjamin Franklin, Myra, Harriet, Lasira, Martin, and Charles E. If these are your line, too, I have dates and places to share.

Thank you for your reply. Do you have information on the birth parents of Lucinda Baker? The Lucinda I am looking for was born about 1885 to Abraham and Caroline GREENMAN Baker in Van Buren County, Michigan. Caroline died in 1886, Van Buren Co. and Abraham in 1895, Van Buren Co. A Washington Potter then gained guardianship through probate of Lucinda. That is the last information I have.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you Joanne. None of these names are common to my line as of yet. My Baker line is first known from Abraham Baker b. 1818 in Franklin Co., Pennsylvania. I am participating in the Baker Y-chromosome group. bakerdna.net.

Response to entry by Joanne Decker: Norman C. Baker is my great, great, grandfather. Some of his things have been passed down to me, including letters from his sons while fighting in the civil war, which I've transcribed (facinating), a photograph of him in 1866, his family bible with handwritten notes of family births and deaths, and a few other things. About 10 years ago, my daughter and I drove to Lenawee Michigan and found the cemetary with all the family graves. I was doing geneology at that time, but have not done any since then. Joanne, your post is almost 3 years old, so you may not even get this. It is a complete fluke that I even found this site, and your post. I didn't even know this type of site exists.

I am so glad you posted a response to my 3 year old query! I almost deleted this posting w/o looking at it. Would you please email me off-line at dbldecker@comcast.net so we can "converse? I, too, have been to Wolf Creek Cemetery and the West Adrian Cemetery and taken pictures. There is a church you need to visit while the minister is there so he can show you records that are kept in his safe at church! Amazing stuff. PLEASE email me asap! Again, thanks you for contacting me! -- Joanne Decker

My great-great grandmother was a younger sister of Norman C. Baker. I have photos of their father, Joseph M. Baker and also of their sister, Sally F. Baker Thomas. I hope you are still interested in this database.
