Searching for the descendents of brothers Lemuel and Eugene Daniels who moved with their families from Decatur County, KS to present day Ellis County, OK in 1896.

Lemuel Daniels was born 1 May 1841/1842 in Rock County, WI to Richard Daniels and Catherine Codner Daniels. He moved with his family to Butler County, IA circa 1855. He married Emily Demmick/Dimmick, born 5 Sep 1848 in LaSalle County, IL, daughter of Lawrence W. and Cynthia Dimmick, circa 1866. Lemuel Daniels died 16 Aug 1908 in Ellis County, OK and is buried in the Gage Cemetery, Gage, OK. Emily Demmick/Dimmick Daniels died 23 Nov 1934 and is buried in the Gage Cemetery, Gage, OK. Eugene Daniels was born Dec 1853 in Rock County, WI to Richard and Catherine Codner Daniels. He moved with his family to Butler County, IA circa 1855. He married first Lucinda C. (unknown) Daniels, born circa 1857 in IA. She died in childbirth 10 Sep 1898 in Ellis County, OK and is buried in the Gage Cemetery, Gage, OK. He next married Florence M. (unknown) Daniels who was born circa 1875 in MA. Eugene Daniels died 17 Apr 1923 and is buried in the Gage Cemetery, Gage, OK. Thanks for the response. I have a copy of the article written by Pauline Herber. She was my husband's first cousin. Pauline died in April 1994, shortly after we moved to Shattuck.

I have been searching since 1994 for information on my husabnd's family and I have not had much luck. I have more information on previous generations than the last couple. I posted my query in the hopes that some one related to the Daniels family would respond and bring my records on the current generation up-to-date.

I was unaware that the Woodward Library had copies of the Ellis County papers. I have a copy of the obit for Emily Demmick Daniels, wife of Lemuel Daniels. I have been unable to find an obit for Lemuel who died in 1908 and is buried in the Gage Cemetery. I will have to try the Woodward Library.

A PIONEER HISTORY OF SHATTUCK has a story about the Earnest Ray Daniels family that came to Ellis County from Decatur County near Cedar Bluff, Kansas, with his parents Lem and Emily Daniels, in 1896. I would be happy to copy it and send it to you by snail mail.

Mrs. Pauline Herber submitted the biography and it has a picture of the family.

Two of the family of Earnest evidently remained in SHATTUCK and both married men by the name of Starbuck. Mary Violet married Walter Starbuck and they have lived in SHATTUCK all of their lives. Rosie Edna is married to Roy Starbuck who is county commissioner from SHATTUCK. Walter and Roy were sons of Allen Wesly and Josie Bell Young Starbuck. I remember these people vaguely as I grew up in Ellis County but left many years ago. I still have family there and now
frequently visit.

The Woodward Library has Ellis County newspapers as does the Oklahoma Archives in Oklahoma City. I make trips to one or the other about once a month and would be happy to search for obituaries if they would help.

I have a marriage license for Florence M. Ring and Eugene Daniels that I will scan and send to you as well as other information on the family before they settled in Ellis County.

I have just begun a search for my ancestors in Ellis County, Oklahoma. According to my grandmother, my great-great-grandfather was Eugene Daniels, and my great-greant-grandmother was Florence Mae (Ring) Daniels. She knows that Eugene Daniels was married prior to Florence, but did not know her name. She has given me many of those children's names. Children of Eugene and Florence included my grandmother Giola May Daniels, born 7/1/1901 in Gage, Ok (d. 1/1974), and Ervon Daniels. So far, this is as much information as I have been able to find.

I believe Earnest Daniels married a woman named Pearl Smith, who also died in Shattuck. They had, as far as I know, three daughters: Rosie Edna (b 6 May 1913, d 11 Jan 1993), Mary Violet, and Ella May (my grandmother), born 17 Jan 1909. She married James Calvin Botts from Missouri (I don't know if they were married in Ellis County or elsewhere) and died in Hermiston, OR on 4 Aug 1964. They had 10 children.

I have family history on Earnest Ray Daniels back to his grandfather and information on Pearl Edna Smith' maternal line.

My Father was Ray Franklin Daniels, he was Rosie's , Mary Violets and Ella May's Brother. He had another brother named Cecil Oscar and a Kenneth and a Helen and a Josephine
