We are looking for decendants of Colonel
James Mayson. He was born in Scotland around
1739 and fought in the Rev. War. One of his
sons -Charles Colcock- his son Capt.Hamilton
Mayson of the Jefferson Davis Sharpshooters.
Hamilton's son- Charles Glynn- his son-
Farrar Besselieu Mayson my grandfather. I
have pages of history on them and would enjoy
finding family photos. Valjeanvj@aol.com

Valerie,
I am a descendant of this James MAYSON.
H e was born 1733 died 1799.
Unfortunately photos came into being long after that time. But such a wealthy, prominent man may have had portraits made of him. Do you know of any in existence.
Some of his descendants were talented artists for ex there is a lady living in Atlanta GA who is a descendant and a very talented artiust. In my family I have a portrait painted by his great grand daughter about 1840 of her brother and his wife. The artist was a Mary Miller Kesler the brother was Samuel Miller b. 1817. All still b4 photos were popular enough to be taken outside professional photogs.
I have much info on this family and will gladly trade info with you.

I have a family tree that was done on the Hammond side of my family that list Col. James Mayson as an ancestor. I named my 13 month old daughter Mayson Elizibeth Jones because of him. I would love to here more on the history of Col. Mayson.

Charles,
I was given your name by someone else posting on this list and she tells me you have quite a bit of info on James Mayson. I descend through him by his daughter Miriam who married David Anderson. My great-great grandmother was an Anderson through their line. I had gone to visit the National Historic Site where James is buried, purchased some books there and also stopped in Edgefield at the Genealogy Center and made some copies of info on him. But of course there is NO info on his first wife, Miriam's mother. Do you know anything? If you can tell me anything new, I would appreciate it.
Thanks, Candice Sebring-Kelber
