PASSENGER LISTS-Boston-New York
I have a book that lists Ship Passenger lists for Armenian Immigrants
entering the USA via Boston 1891-1901 and New York 1880-1897 if someone
would like me to look someone up. Give Surname/Given and Sex. If Family group mention that also.

BOOK-Ship Passenger lists for Armenian Immigrants
entering the USA via Boston 1891-1901 and New York 1880-1897
I've been looking at this book alot lately and I thought I would share some
rough observations I've made:
There are only 6 pages dealing with Boston; 166 pages are for New York.
Observations on New York:
Beginning in 1880 virtually all the passengers are MALE, Females really
don't start showing up in any significant presence until Oct 1896. If you
look at the the number of Armenian (based on Name or Nationality)
passengers on each ship(concentration) and the number of total Armenians per
year (roughly based on the number of pages) you get the following trnds each
year:
Date Pages Concentration #/ship
1880 1 1-20 range
1881 1/2 ditto
1882 1 1/2 ditto
1883 1 ditto
1884 1 1/2 ditto
1885 1 ditto
1886 4 ditto
1887 3 1/2 ditto
1888 3 ditto
1889 6 ditto but by the end of 1989 the #/ship increases
noticeably towards 20-40 range
1890 13 1/2 stays at this higher level
1891 24 stays at this higher level
1892 22 stays at this higher level
1893 11 by the end of 1893 goes back down to the 1-20
range
1894 6 1/2 at the 1-20 range
1895 16 concentration picks up at the end of the year
1896 35 * fairly heavy concentration with two significant
ships
the ODAM Boulogne to NY 19 OCT 1896 has ~166 (Armenian) passengers;
virtually all Male but there are a sprinkling of Females that look likfe
family groups.
the CALIFORNIA Havre to NY 23 Oct 1896 has ~132 (Armenian) passengers; all
Male except for ~7 Females.
1897 15 Concentration slightly below prior year but you
see alot more Females/Family.
History be told...........

My grandfather Elzear Oroian came into New York in 1890. His son Boghes came into new York in 1905. I don't know where they got on the ship to come into New York. Please respond to

I hope that you maybe of some help to me. I am trying to find my mother in laws grandparents who both were hidden in potatoe sacks on a merchant ship and brought to New York. They were both between the ages of 5 and 7 at the time. I am told that they came from Armenia and that his surname was Torigian possibly Lucas and Lucy but I have no clue what her surname was. Any help you could give would be great!
