Am seeking information on the family of Lauchlin McDonald of the Lower Settlement of the South River, Antigonish. Among his children were Angus, Alexander, Rory, Ronald, Christy, and Jean. Lauchlin's land passed to his son Angus in the 1830s. Lauchlin's neighbours were Donald McDonald ( sailor ) on the Southside and Rory McDonald on the Northside. A Roderick Chisholm was a friend of Lauchlin's.

Christina died in 1866. Her father Lauchlin I suspect died in the 1830s. Among his son Ronald's children was an Alexander. Among Alexander's children were Allan, Angus, and Flora. Flora became a sister of St. Martha. Among the children of Angus were John L (RCAF) and Alex.

Are the McDonald's of Lower South River the same family
as the McDonald's of Upper South River?
I am trying to find my GGrandparents John Floyd and
Mary MacDonald. They lived in Antigonish until 1901 when
the family moved to Cape Breton. My Grandmother was
Catherine Ann Floyd. I know they belonged to
St. Andrew's Catholic Church as she was baptised there.
Any help on connecting to this family would be greatly
appreciated..

I don't know. I have no information on the families of Angus, Jean, Alexander, and Rory. They may have moved away from lower South River.

I don't know much about this part of the family. Guess we'll
have to keep on hunting.

Unfortunately I don't have any definite information on the
MacDonald's, except they were connected to Chisholm's
and MacNeil'S.
However, I do have a lot of the Floyd family history back
to Ireland, Mirimachi, surviving the fire; moving to Pictou
then to Upper South River.
I lost the rest because my Grandfather John Floyd moved
his family to Sydney, Cape Breton before the 1901 census.
I do have the names of this family though.
As for my MacDonald family, maybe it's my Celtic instincts, for some reason I believe they came from Morar or South Uist. They were supposed to have landed in Pictou on
the Ship Nora.
