I need help finding Batts who died between 1860 and 1870 in Limestone Co., AL, leaving behind an orphan, Ella C.D. Batts b. 1861, shown on the 1870 Limestone Co. census in the household of William Shields. She married Robert W. Simpson in 1877. Please help me find her family. Ellen

Thank you for the information. A George Batts who my mother remembers as an uncle or cousin moved to Van Zandt Co., TX around the same time that Ella and her husband, Robert Simpson, moved there.

There was an Ella C BATTS born in 1862 to John Edward BATTS and Martha Jane MYERS. She is listed with the SHIELDS in the 1870 census. Martha Jane died in 1869. Perhaps John was unable to properly care for a little girl. Ella died in Texas in 1923. I hope this helps your quest. You may contact me directly if you wish ( jonestb3@mindspring.com ).
