Chris Hansen family

Anyone have information on descendants of Chris Hansen who farmed in Mansfield for many years and died in 1963? I am doing a history of the family of his first wife Meta Lassen and would like to contact any of their children or grandchildren. They had a son Richard Hansen and three daughters, Christine Bayliss, Agnes Graves and Anna Belle Schutter.

You will have more success in assistance if, when you post, you would identify specific information on who you seek, especially the date of birth, place of birth, etc. Also post what information you already have, such as census data, where/when children were born, what information you have on the spouses of the children, etc. The likelihood that you will receive help from a researcher is much more than actually finding a family member. So, help out the researcher.

But, your data did give somewhat of a start into research:

The Social Security Death Index (SSDI) shows a Chris Hansen, born 11 July 1891, died Sep 1963. His Social Security Number (SSN) was 534-09-4189, issued in WA before 1963. There was no further information.
--You can request a copy of his original application for his SSN through the Social Security Administration. That would show the names of his parents, where he was living at the time of submission and other information.

The Washington Death Index did not show his name. But, the online WDI did not show ANYONE with a death in 1963 on Ancestry.com.

The World War I Draft Registration Card Image Database:
For that date of birth, there was a Chris Benton Hansen, born July 11, 1891 in Ironwood(?), Michigan, living in Seattle. He was a Baker at the Georgetown Bakery (Georgetown is an area just in the south of Seattle).
---BUT, the following basically could disprove the above person is the person you seek. Unless you have specific information on "your" Chris Hansen, the person on the SSDI could be this person and not "your" Chris Hansen. The date of birth on this wrong Chris Hansen is the same as the person dying in Sep 1963.

--You would need an obituary to prove otherwise. Do you have the obituary of "your" Chris Hansen? You can have a search conducted free through the Washington State Library, they look for one hour; BUT, you would need to know the exact date of death and place of death/or where an obit was published.

---"your" Chris Hansen-------

The 1920 Census for Saint Andrews, Douglas County, WA
Chris Hansen, age 28 (circa 1891/1892), born in Denmark, immigrated in 1910, naturalized in 1918, farmer
Meta E, age 22, born in California
"Ditlev" P. , brother, age 26, born in Denmark, immigrated in 1911, farmer

The 1930 Census for Burke, Douglas County, WA
Chris HansOn (with an "O"), age 38, born in Denmark, immigrated 1910, farmer renting his land, was first married at age 27 (circa 1918/1919)
Meta E, age 33 (Circa 1896/1897), born in California to both parents born in Denmark, first married at age 21 (1917/1918...so between the two, "probably" 1918).
Meta C, dau, 9 (circa 1920/1921)
Agnes E, 7 (circa 1922/1923)
Anna B, 6 (circa 1923/1924)
Richard S.W. 4 6/12 (census enumerated April 8/9 1930, so born circa Oct 1925)
Hans, brother, age 45. born in Denmark

The Washington Death Certificate Index shows Meta Esther Hansen Died 27 March 1937 in Wenatchee, Chelan County, WA, at age of 40 years, 2 months and 4 days (1897). She was married to Chris. her father was Marisness Lassen, mother Esther.

I found no Christine Bayliss in Washington.
I found an Agnes O Graves, (middle initial "O" does not match) in Seattle.
I found no Anna Shutter in Washington, none born circa 1923 death in the USA.

----posted family tree------
I found two submitted family trees having Meta Esther Lassen. One submitted by b_aa@hotmail.com updated August 2001. The other by baaj@sol.dk (dk indicates an email address of Denmark) updated March 2001. So the email address may be old.

The information in the trees indicate Meta was born 23 January 1897 in Denmark an died 27 March 1937 in Wilbur, Washington. She was married to Kristian Hansen, born 5 September 1891 in Skonager, Næsbjerg Sogn, Denmark and died 2 December 1963 in Mansfield, Washington.
--Note: For Meta, the date of death matches the WA Death Certificates, but not the place. The date of death for Chris does not match the SSDI or your date.

The b-aa@hotmail data shows Agnes married to Richard E. Graves, and "AnnaBelle" married to Aksel Schutter, born in Denmark.
------------------

The 1930 Census for Manson, Chelan County, shows an Ernest Schutter, born Germany with wife Marie and son Walter-born 1918.
--The Washington Death Index shows a Florence M Schutter, death in Wenatchee in 1987 at age 1908, residence in Douglas County. Also, a Prosper J. Shutter, death in Wenatchee on 10 August 1990 at age 85, residence in Douglas County.

So, basically, there isn't any "confirmed" information on this family since 1937. The death date of Chris as you have was Sep 1963, but there is also another person that could have been this individual. The person having the family tree data shows the date of death as Dec 1963, but there is no information to confirm that data.

If you have specific date of deaths on ANY of the family, you could try:
The Washington State Library has a free research service, the ask-a-librarian program, where they will look for information in the archives, in this case the newspaper microfilm for an event, such as an obituary. They will look up to an hour and send you the results. Contact them at: http://www.secstate.wa.gov/library/ask.aspx . Depending on the amount of requests, it could take up to a couple of weeks.
-If interested you can look at the catalog of holdings at: http://www.secstate.wa.gov/library/microfilm.aspx

For genealogy help, there isn't much in Douglas County
http://genealogytrails.com/wash/douglas/index.html
http://www.genealogylinks.net/usa/washington/Douglas.htm

Mansfield today has a population of 320.

Not much on this family, perhaps you have additional?

Thank you for your research and suggestions. I do have obituaries for Chris and Meta Hansen which seem to confirm the other information I provided. My main interest is the parents of Meta given, as you noted, in the state index as Marisness and Esther. I found Meta in the 1900 Census in Seattle with a Marinus Lassen, probably her father (he listed as widowed). In the 1910 and 1920 Census she is living with Hans and Annie Lassen in Hayward, Calif., they being her adoptive parents. I suspect Hans was a brother of Marinus. I have found no death or burial record for Marinus or his wife Esther. Meta's obituary said she was born in Sacramento, Calif., in 1897. That is about all I have. Thanks again. Any further suggestions welcome
