DAR Proof Questions

Hello,

I have been researching several potential DAR ancestor lines for many years. I am now the closest I have ever been, although there is still more research required.

I know it states on the NSDAR website that birth certificates are only required for the first several generations (working back). Could you provide any more detail on what generations require birth certificates? Also, for later generations, what are acceptable proofs of lineage, and which are the best?

I am researching several potential ancestors, but have had the most results with the following line:

Silas Flanary A040493
Patrick Porter A091277

I have contacted the local chapter, but only received an email on the upcoming chapter meeting. Can I attend a chapter meeting? Is there a way to contact the chapter volunteer who works with applications and research guidance?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Hello Monica;
You might want to contact the State Registrar and have her help you. She might be able to help you get in contact with the local Registrar. Or you could go to the chapter meeting and see if you can personally touch base with the local registrar.

Any documentation that proves lineage from one generation to another is needed, whether it be a birth record or a death record. Some of the records I used were funeral home, cemetery, probate, church baptismals, and the list goes on. I hope this helps in your research.

If we can help you again, please feel free to contact us.

Hello,
You will need census records, birth, death and marriage records that can be found in various other ways other than ?certificates. You can use cemetery records, obituary notices, published birth announcements etc. Various books on locations such as "The Town of Woodbury, CT," or the like. You need to prove a connection to each generation. And in the end, you need to prove your ancestors service and a census record from 1790 if possible.
