Hello:

I am looking for relatives of Richard Dawson (deceased) previously of 1147 Surrey Lane, Newark, Ohio. Richard was the nephew of my great aunt, Mary Dawson Wooster, born in Corry, PA (April 11, 1890) and last of Warren, PA. (D: June 11, 1977) Her parents were: Richard Pound Dawson and Alzina Dawson. Richard Pound Dawson was a partner in Dawson Brothers' Grocery and mayor of Corry for two terms in at the turn of the 20th Century.

The reason for my search is to advise them of the availability of an online photo album of the Dawson family of Corry, PA that spans a period between circa 1865 and 1930. This was the personal family album of Mary's sister, Lula Edna Dawson Bliley.

It seems that all of the Dawsons have left the Corry area. My attempts to contact Dawsons in Ohio by telephone were met with skepticism or rejection. I am hoping that one of you from the RootsWeb.com genealogy message board will be able to put me on the right path to her relatives. My dream is that they may find the same joy in this wonderful photo album that I did.

At the end of this letter is a list of the names of the individuals identified in the album's 75 photos. The album is also available on CD-ROM for a very nominal charge. The CD contains all of the original photos in Photoshop native format and JPEG with higher resolutions than is practical to post on a Web site.

Regretfully, I learned in August 2002 that Richard Dawson (deceased), previously of 1147 Surrey Lane, Newark, Ohio died without any offspring. My search for his branch is over. I will now look for offspring of his sister, Elizabeth.

Is this the Richard Dawson that owned Dawson's 5 and dime in Hebron during the 1970's and earlier?

Thank you for the reply. You are correct. He did own and operate the 5 & 10 cent store in Hebron. I know little more about him except what I learned recently from his OB.

I do know that he died without any children or other relatives in the Licking area. I recently posted a follow-up not to my own message explaining these facts and my disappointment.

I never thought of doing any research on him alone. I have been so focused on finding his kin to let them know of his pictures in my grandmother's family photo album.

I am currently looking for the children of his sister, Elizabeth Dawson Lewis who lived in Rhode Island for many years. My focus has been on letting kin know of the album and overlooked basic genealogy on Richard W. Dawson.

I am sorry but I only knew his wife. I am quite sure she has passed on although I am not sure. My grandmother was friends with them and I used to frequent the store as a child. After his wife sold the store when I was a teen I lost contact. My grandmother would have probably known something but unfortunately she has also passed on. If I dig up anything from my living relatives that live in Hebron I'll forward it to you.
