I've been trying, I found my great grandmother, Sallie Ann Broyles/Broils who married Albert Martin in Sans Bois, first child is Ollie, in the 1900 census in AR. Sally/Sallie is listed as from Indian Territory, then in 1910, they are back in Oklahoma with 3 more kids, and she is going by Alice Martin. By 1913 they moved back to Arkansas. My grandmother Rachel Martin always said she(her mother) was the first one born off "the reservation" but I don't know what to think. She was supposed to be Cherokee. Check my family tree, I've got back to 1500 on two lines, but this one seems buried for good. Albert died in 1912 or 1913, and Sallie/Alice died around 1918 in Sevier Co. Arkansas. Death certificate burned in the courthouse fire. (AR)Any help would be very appreciated! Ollie married an Almond and raised her orphaned siblings. Thanks for any help!

Minnie- 1903 Oklahoma
Frank- 1906 Oklahoma
Rachel- 1913 Gillam, AR
1900 census says Denton, Scott AR (Sallie Ann, Albert,Ollie
1910 census says Alice and Albert, and lists all kids except Rachel in AR Hope this helps.
My grandmother Rachel says her mother was Cherokee, but she didn't know how much. I have a medical condition my Dr. says is found in Native women. Something must be there, but I may never be able to track it down. Tried for 20 years. Any breakthrough would be a miracle. I believe in miracles!I'm worried that Broyles may be a name of a white man her mother may have married, I can't find it on any role. She couldn't read or write, and didn't want to be found, I don't think. My grandma used to yank me in the house if I said I was part "Indian", but later in life she said it was true, from her mother.Sorry for long post...Danita

Is your Rachell Martin related to the Corn Family in Okmulgee, OK. If so then we are related.
In Morris, Ok. cementary their are some Martin's and I remember my Grandmother telling me we are related.Of couse I have forgotten if it was her side or my grandfather's side. Rachel Martin just sounds so familiar to me.
Let me know if any of this is familiar if it is I can ask them about the Martin line and see how far back they know of. Might help

I really don't know. My Rachel Martin was born in 1913. Her mother was Sallie Ann, but I have also seen her listed as Alice on the census, and I know it was her because of the kid's names. She (Sallie Ann/Alice)died when my grandma Rachel was about 5 years old, and her dad died before she was born. The marriage record shows she married in San Bois County, I.T. and all the kids were listed as born in I.T. But I don't know where. (not sure of the spelling) I saw mountains called San Bois on an old map. Might be Sans Bouis.
I can't remember. I was born with congenital hip displasia (dislocated hip) that my Dr. said ran in native women. Do you know of any in the family? Could be a clue.

Interesting, Rachel's brother was named Frank, and she had sisters Ollie, and Minnie. Rachel was the baby, born in 1913. She was raised by her oldest sister after her mother died when she was 5.

Hi, again. I called my dad and he said Rachel Martin-Corn is my great grandma. Her kids were Norma Jean,Paul, Anna, Raymond (my grandpa)and Virginia.
So I'm thinking possibly not the same Martins then. Let me know.

Hi! I think you are right. My grandma Rachel has three children, Itha Kay, Wayne, and Larry. Her mother was Sallie Ann, but sometimes called Alice. Thanks for trying!
