I am having problems placing my Byingtons (who came to Salem MASS in 1690 and moved to CT (mainly New haven county) in 1730 to the brother John Byington (who I understand was originally Boynton but the king messed his name up?) Is there a chance that William, the other brother who came, might also have had descedents who went the way of changing the last name to Byington? Or if I am a Byington is it pretty much accepted fact that he is from John? I'd love to hear about this as it's all very much confusing :)

My g g-grandfather wrote "that Boynton - now Byington - was anciently seated at Barmstead Co York England derived from Bartholemew de Boynton who was lord of the manor of Boynton in 1067 who lated went to MASS and CT"

Anything of that statement sound right? Love to hear!

Hello,

I have a few very informative books on the Boynton/Boyington/Byington/...ect. line. I believe it is safe to say that the lines are all connected with a few minor changes in spelling. For instance, the Boyntons of Cornish Maine , for a few years (a couple of decades or less) changed thier names from Boynton to Boyington and back to Boynton again. My particular line is through John of Knapton who settled in Rowley, ma. with his brother William. Through these books , I have found most alternate spellings are still part of the same de Boynton line.

Would any of these "Boyington's" by chance be a John V. Boyington that was born about 1873, location unknown? Last residence was in Bogalusa, Louisiana, my hometown. I have a Boyington link; my mother was a Boyington as well as my grandfather. John was a great-grandfather.

Also, would these books be available at any library? What are their titles?
