My Father was Sonkey Derice Mcabee. His father was also Sonkey and Married Mary Elizabeth Duncan. They had 9 children and mostly farmed. They lived in Spartanburg and Greenville county(that I know of) My gg was said to marry a cherokee named Rebecca. I heard they may have come from Tennessee. I want to know where they came to the USA from. The origin of the Mcabee Name. I have been told most likely it is if Celtic origin. The earliest mention has to be the old testament The Mcabee were warriors. Supposedly after they reclaimed the temple the whole bunch of them disappeared. I know too little to ask intelligant questions. But I would like to know where they immigrated from and when.

We very could be closely related. My Grandfather was James Alton McAbee. He came from a family of farmers, Alabama area, but I know that we have family from Tenn. too. I also have a family story of a gg relative who may have married a native american. I also know that Duncan is a family name as well. Interesting, I will have to research it and let you know! As far as McAbee lineage origin. It is celtic and also more recently Scotts-Irish. I do not know when the orriginal McAbee arrived here in the states, but I would assume they were in the great influx of people that immigrated here in the 1800's or thereabouts. I am not good with historical dates. I do know that they did not arrive here on the mayflower. As far as a warrier clan...Which clan was NOT!(ha ha!) I just like to use it as a good excuse for my bad temper and fighting spirit! oh well! I hope this has been a little interesting, and if you are interested in any more info. just e-mail me!

I've seen messages that say that the Mcabee's came into the states from Canada. It is rumored in the family that my Mcabee's came from Greenville and Spartanburg as well. Also there is Cherokee blood in my family but it is unknown whether or not that came from the Mcabee side or my moms. (Trusty) The really frustration part is that my own father can't remember whether his dad's name was Henry Herman or Herman Henry.

I have found more information.
My grandfathers name was Herman Henry Mcabee, he was born Aug, 17, 1901. I was told that he was named after my great grandfather, but that is incorrect. My GGF name was Louis Young Mcabee and his wife (my GGM) was Esther Weaver

I've been reading through information that I have. I don't know what part of the country you reside or family before you. Here is some information taken from an obituary my family had in an old family bible.
MALONE(New York -I believe)1937 // William Machabee was a decendent of a Bellmont pioneer family. He was the son of Mitchell and Mary Audette Machabee. He was born in Dewittville, Que. and came with his parents to Bellmont in 1867 when that township was a virgin wilderness. The family immediately set about cutting down logs to make their first home. More than half a century ago, the Machabee family moved to California, leaving behind only two sons, Joseph, who died this year and a half ago, and William. William Machabee married Carrie Morgan and had 12 children. At the time of this writing 9 survived.// Williams brother, John, my great grandfather, and his family had settled in the Almaden area of San Jose, CA. John McAbee eventually owned beach property in Monterey, CA still refered to as McAbee Beach before the sardine factories were operating. This was in the late l900's. He also owned a ranch in San Juan Bautista, CA that eventually became the home of my grandfather Leland and my father, Richard's, boyhood home. There is also is a McAbee road in Almaden (San Jose, CA) In the obit of William, the surviving siblings of that year were Herman, Edward and Mrs. Jane Bennet all of San Jose, CA.
It will be interesting to see if you see any connections in this information. Your Gfather and GGfather have names that are in my lineage. Lynda McAbeeAriano - Salinas, CA
