I am seeking information on my wife's great grandparents. All I know for certain is that they are from Pustakart, Czek. Their names might have been Emery and Mary Shipko. The first 3 children born to them were born in Pustakart -Julius, born in 1898, Michael Shipko in 1901, and Bernadine Agatha Shipko, born in 1904. Mary, their 4th child was born in Pennsylvania in 1913. So they must have emigrated between 1904-1913. I did not see the name Shipko under Czek surnames, so their name might have been different. Shipkowski, perhaps. I only know about their origin in Pustakart from the Social Security Index. Does anyone know of a place named Pustakart?

Wow, I just read your post from back in April. I don't know how I missed it. Your Grandfather's aunt (Mary Shipko) was born Mary Karnos, and you are right about practicing medicine. In the US she worked as a midwife. She married Emrich Shipko. She was born in 1876, and she died in 1950. She is buried in the Riverside Cemetary in Union, NY. (the Binghamton area)
All I know is that she was from Slovakia, but I know nothing about her like in Europe other than that she emigrated here about 1912.
Her husband was from Pusta Kert or Pustakart and 3 of their children were born there.

Mary's youngest daughter, also Mary is my wife's grandmother. She died a little over a year ago.

Was your grandfather from Pusta Kart as well? Is Mary Shipko his mother's sister, then? Doy you know much about your great grandmother?

Point of interest - there is a city in Russia named Shipko. It's in the Ukraine I think, wherever Yaroslavkaya Oblast' is.
