I an reserching an American family whose name here is spelled SOOY. It has also been spelled as SOEY and SOOEY. It is reported that a member of the family came to the colonies around About 1705 and married in New York or New Amsterdam. I was told search in Belgium and that name may be SOOIJ.

I an sure that American name is not the way it was spelled in Europe.

My family line can be traced to Joost Sooy, b. 1685 (trying to find country of origin). He married Sarah Van Tienhoven in 1707 in New Amsterdam, NY. Joost settled in Lower Bank, NJ, where he died in 1738. I have more details if needed.

My family also can be traced back to Joost Sooy. My Grandmother was Charles and Ruth Sooy's daughter Maud. Any information you would share would be greatly appreciated

Sorry never opened message. I have the same information. My Grandmother was Maud Sooy. Joost Sooy was her G. Grand. My family still lives in same area.
