I am looking for information on Daniel Newell Woodward who came to Hawaii. Born abt 1833 either from Canada/England. There are some records that also say that he was born in the Hawaiian Islands marrying a hawaiian girl. Any information would be gladly appreciated.

Hi,
I found a Daniel Woodward and family on the Villa Family Tree, http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/12793736/person/-178484667.

Daneil Woodward b. 1829, Hawaii. Daniel married Ellen Umiokalani Kahinu in 1865. They had 7 children.

"When the missionaries arrived in Hawaii in 1820, the Hawaiian had already dismantled their heliaus and had rejected their religious beliefs. From 1837 to 1840, nearly 20,000 Hawaiians finally chose to accept Christianity as their new religion" www.hawaiian-roots.com/missionaries.htm

In 1865 most birth, marriage and death records were kept by the churches. I don't have a clue what religion the Woodward family adopted.

I found some marriage info at the Hawaii State Archives, http://hawaii.gov/dags/archives for Ellen and some of the children.
The Villa Family Tree doesn't show that Ellen married after Daniel died but a Lewis S. Smith marred Helen U. Woodward September 14, 1914 in Honolulu. Book & Page: O-94(4):70.

You can order the actual document from the Archives, http://hawaii.gov/dags/archives/about-us/services-and-fees

In 1900 Daniel was living in Koolaupoko, Oahu, Hawaii Territory.

You can order a copy of his death certificate. Go to Dept of Health, http://hawaii.gov/health/vital-records/vital-records/genealo... .

Important Documents for Hawaiian Research, www.hawaiian-roots.com/importantdocuments.htm provides great information about access to records what happened in the Islands and when. Successful Searching!

My great grandaunt Agnes Mamie Silva married Daniel Manuhoa Woodward Jr., grandson of Daniel Woodward b. 1829. I have Daniel Woodward as being born in 1849 born in Canada and married to Elena Umiokalani. Actually I don't know if Agnes and Daniel were married or not, but they had two children together.

Info is from familysearch.org, so dates are off allot in most cases.

Thank you for the reply I have seen you on several sites. At least I know now how you are related. People say that Daniel Woodward comes from England also. Its to bad that its so confusing. I am looking for information for family on the Woodward side before arriving in Hawaii. My husbands grandfather is Joseph Kamakini who married Alice Kaala Kuwale aka Iokepa. My mother-in-law is Edna Shea from Papakolea. Joseph is the son to Daniel Manuhoa and Elena Kahinu.

Aloha

Hi,
OK. But I'm confused. Are you looking for Daniel Newell Woodward or Daniel Manuhoe Woodward? I've seen both names in the records.
