Have been doing alot of genealogy on the Montour family line concerning Andrew Montour, his mother "Madame Montour" who im told Montour county was named after; her father Louis Montour and his sister, my direct ancestor Marie Montour. Maries mother was Marie Mitewamegwakawe or Miteouamigoukoue. Does anyone know what tribe Marie was from? i ve heard, tobacco nation, ottawa, mohawk, and huron.anyone know for sure. This is a mystery i would like to solve. thankyou

I am also descended from Marie Miteoamegoekoe and Pierre Couc dit Lafleur, and have found the same references regarding Marie's ancestry, including Abenaki, part of the Algonquin group (Outiataronons). I have found that Marie's father was Barthelemi (French alias, I am sure) and her mother, Carole Pachirini. Witnesses at Marie & Pierre's marriage 16 Apr 1657 were said to be Charles Pachirini, Indian chief, and Bathelemy Anaraoi, on the side of the bride, and Messrs Pere & Severin Ameau for the groom. (ref: "Madame Montour et son temps" by Simone Vincens)
Regarding the response of Vanessa Zuniga: My research has indicated that Louis Couc dit Montour was a son of the above Pierre and Marie, and that John (Jean Baptiste) was Louis' brother.
I would love to learn more about Marie and Pierre and their family. Have you had any further responses?

I wish to correct a statement made in my posting 28 Nov 1999. The parents of Marie Miteoamegoekoe were not Barthelemi, and Carole Pachirini. The person who originally published this information was misinformed. It seems that Carole Pachirini was a male, and I don't know who Barthelemi was. Sorry for the confusion.

Marie Miteouamigoukoue, was my 8th great grandmother and she was from the Algonquin Nation....Canada

I am a descendant of Marie Miteoamegoekoe, she was my 8th great grandmother. I do have some information about this line if you are still looking

Since my query of November 1999 I have learned that Marie's parents were not Barthelemi and Carole; this information was been published in error. The researcher who picked up on these names misinterpreted the records he/she found in the National Archives. Do you know who her parents were? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Marie is one of my most intriguing ancestors and I would love to learn more about her or her family. Thanks for responding, Maureen

I am just starting my ancestry trial subscription, but a lot of my info came from a book on the Montours. All the main characters were in there. I was stuck on John Montour, who was my g-g- grandfather. Then I learned that he went by his given name Sever on older records.
|
John was my G-G grandfather also. I don't know when or why he dropped the Sever.
On my g grandfathers birth record it was Severo. That was in St. Peters church in Mendota, MN
