I am hoping someone can help me. I would like to get a copy of the marriage certificate of my great grandparents but don't know how to do that. I have the date/year and the marriage place indicates British Embassy or Legation Abroad, Great Britain. The system origin says Great Britain - EASy and VR and I have the source film number. But who do I contact to get a copy? Thank you!

Without knowing where you found the information, or the source film number, it's hard to answer. It does appear, however, that The National Archives, Kew, hold the Foreign Registers and Returns.

Hi Robin,

The marriage certificate you're after may be ordered online from http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ IF it appears in their Overseas Indexes, which are available on findmypast. If you don't have access to that website and you're willing to post the names, date and place, I'll see if I can find the index reference for you.

You are so kind to help. I obtained the info from FamilySearch.org. The names are William Crosley and Eugenie Cooke. Date of marriage was 4/28/1884 at the British Embassy or Legation Abroad, Great Britain. The indexing project number is Mo1102-0, the system origin is Great Britain-EASY and VR and the source film number is 1929840.

Well I've had a look in the indexes and I can't find the names you mention. I think you might have to e-mail familysearch and ask them where the record came from. I can see it has a Source Film Number and Batch Number, but as there's no indication of the country in which the marriage took place it's a bit tricky to pin down. I'm sorry I couldn't help further.

Since the LDS list a film number, you should be able to have that film delivered to your local LDS Centre where you'll be able to view the record.

Hello 3 avenues 1) write to :- Certificate Service Section, General Register Office, PO Box 2, Southport, PR8 2JD United Kingdom.
2) email :- certificate.service@ips.qsi.gov.uk
3) telephone 08456037788 opening hours UK time Monday-Friday 8am-8pm & Saturday 9am-4pm.
I use gro.gov.uk (google) then go to Registration Services- Certificate Ordering Service. Click on Order A Certificate On Line Now. You will have to now register, then follow instructions. I ordered a certificate from R.A.F. Wegberb in Germany & did not know half the information required & got a certificate. Best of luck Peter

Don't know if this comes too late, but I got a copy of my grandparents marriage certificate and a later date; Birth certificate through an agency (can't remeber who they were) on the certificate it states:
Given at the GENERAL REGISTER OFFICE, LONDON
Perhaps this may help you.
