Hans had the doughter Jorgine, raised by Bent Gundersen Birkeland. Do anybody know what became of her?

This is not an answer to your query. However, I'm trying to learn something about my great grandfather, CHRISTIAN LETH. Three records say that he was born in Arendal. However, I can find no information on him at all before he was 21. I've contacted the archives in Kristianstad and Aust Agder with no luck. I've searched for over 40 hours. I'm beginning to think his parents may have been servants in the Leth home. There was a rather prominent Leth family living in Arendal when my great grandfather would have lived there. My latest hypothesis is that my great grandfather took on the name of Leth because he lived with them. I now believe his correct name is Christian Andersen. However, the two archives that I contacted could find no record of a Christian Andersen born in 1823 -1824.

My big question is: Do you know anything about the Leth family in Arendal in about 1830?

Its 2012 and you asked this question such a long time ago, I hope I can help.
My late mother Julia May Helen Campbell (nee Leth) was a descendant of Isaac Leth, ex Stadthauptmann (Mayor) of Arendal, Merchant and Ship owner 1757-1831. His son, the wild rogue, publican, schoolteacher, seller of illegal liquor and disgraced Ships Captain, Hans Helmer Leth was our Great, Great, Great Grandfather. He died in 1846 aged 70 but had 6 children:

Samuel Nicholai Leth, 1824-1864 ... my Great Great Grandfather.
Isaac Leth 1826 ... your Great Great Grandfather and father of Inga Bergitte Leth.
Mathias Bendix born 1829
Mathilde born 1833
Henriette born 1844 - Their mother Gjertrude Stiansdatter died in 1844 after giving birth to Henriette.
