Hello,
Does anyone know where I can order Betty Darnell's books titled, "Extracts of the Bloomfield Vindicator"? These books came in 7 volumes from 1880 through 1888. The address and e-mail on the Stoddard County UsGenweb site are no longer usable. I am trying to find newspaper articles about a deputy William Martindale Fizer (1858-1884), who was shot to death in Sikeston, MO in 1884. Any information on where I can purchase these books will be appreciated.

Bill, you can reach Betty at 171 Anna Lee Drive, Taylorsville,KY 40071, phone 502-422-0150. The e-mail I have was bettyd@elkcreek.net, but don't know if that is still good.
She told me a while back she had some of the 1882, 1883, and 1886 books left at $5 each, with index, including mailing. Others are out of print. She has redone all the abstracts into one book, 1880-1889, with every name index at $35. including mailing.
Betty is a great gal, and only wish she was still working on Stoddard Co. records.
Good luck.

Hi Bev

Can you do anymore lookups before you send your books off.

I'd really appreciate finding info on Wm Riley or James A Stewart-they left Stoddard just before 1887-1889 for Oklahoma, James returned home to become a guardian to either his Stewart children or another Stewart sibling. I'm looking for obituary notices for William F and Nancy Ann Campbell or their daughter Martha-they died in 1880-81 in Stoddard Co. Did Stoddard Co suffer from an epidemic during this time?

I'm also related to several Hensons. Samuel D. Henson, built the Stoddard Courthouse in 1866-69 and he or his son were involved in a murder case and the older took the blame to keep the younger out of jail.

One last request-I'd really like to find William and Lucretia Ellen Thomasson or Henry and Lucretia Ashabranner.

The two Lucretia/Luckrissys are Stewart/Hollick/Henderson cousins.

Thanks for any help you can provide
Nancy Smith, Northern Virginia

Nancy,
I saw your query, and looked up a few of the surnames you asked about.
I found nothing on the RILEY surname.

March 11, 1882: A reference to a JAS. STEWART, Esq. of New Madrid.

June 23, 1883: "The remains of William CAMPBELL, who died at malden on the morning of the 18th nst., was brought to the Bloomfield cemetery and buried by his father ROBERT CAMPBELL and other members of the family on the 19th inst."

August 15, 1885: A brief article on the death of ANGELINE CAMPBELL,who lived 4 miles north of Leora.

I will let you know if I find anyhing on the Henson, Thomason or Ashabranner surnames.

Doncy,
I looked up the FISHER surname, and found the following references. Hope this helps.

December 15, 1883: "A young man by the name of FISHER met with a rather serious accident in this place on last Wednesday morning. He was driving a mule team in a wagon, and the mules became frightened and attempted to run away. The young man jumped out of the wagon and frcaured his leg just above the ankle joint. FISHER lives in the southeastern portion of the county below Essex."

July 26, 1884: "Judge OWEN arrived home Thursday, accompanied by two of his grandchildren, CHAS. and LOUISE FISHER, of Illinois, whose father resided at this place in days gone by, was chief clerk at Rodolph WEBER's store after the close of the war."

February 28, 1885: "Dexter Items: TAA. FISHER is building a residence at this place."

June 13, 1885: "LOY FISHER, age sixteen years, ran off from home a few days since, on acount of whipping he received from his stepfather."

December 5, 1885: S.A. FISHER and family left Thursday morning for Indiana, where they will make their home again.

Thanks for checking my long list. unfortunately none of the people you found were my family.

Wm Riley is actually Wm Riley Stewart, If you could take a second look. He and his brother James A Stewart were from Springhill, later Piketon which disappear when the railroad line to Bloomfield was relocated.

James A Stewart is buried in the Moore cemetery along with lots of Bollingers and Hensons.

Y\Thanks again!!!
