Marriage license query

Surnames: Inglish Martin
When I was in your office last week, I had totally forgotten that I needed to look up two marriage licenses. They are earlier than the book that you have online. If you can find them, I would appreciate having an electronic copy forwarded to me at jsbthomas@gmail.com. The names of the wives are the same or close, but their birth and death dates are different. In other words the two Martin gentlemen were not married to the same woman.

Johnathan Pierce Martin to Sarah Catherine Inglish, July 4, 1822, Cole County, Missouri (Sarah died before April 6, 1828) and

Valentine Martin to Sarah Catherine Inglish, October 25, 1832, Cole County, Missouri (this Sarah died Jan 27, 1847)

The information I have on these two ladies leads me to believe they were both the daughters of John Inglish, Sr., buried in Inglish Cemetery. One of them is buried in Inglish (FAG 71009775), the other in Cooper County (FAG 34731904). It is possible that one of them does not have the Sarah as part of her name. I did not search for obits for either of them. That might be a help as well.

Thanks for your help, Jan

The Cole county MO marriage records list Jonathan Martin married Polly Vivian on 4 Jul 1822. I believe that this is Jonathan P. Martin.
The Cole county MO marriage records also list Valentine Martin married to Catherine Inglish on 25 Oct 1832.
We don't have the actual Cole county marriage records at the Moniteau co library, just the indexes.
I will look for obits for any of these folks the next time I am at the library.

Thanks for researching the marriages. The second one you mention matches my records (I removed the Sarah from her name so it would match with your research totally.).

As for the first record you found I show that Mary "Polly" Vivion married James Inglish, not Jonathan Martin, on August 25, 1823 in Cole County. Of course, it is possible she married both of them, so could you check for the other?

It would be helpful if you could send me an image of these two entries in the index, so I can do further research. I would like the entire page so I can see the heading at the top of the page and column headings. If there is no information like that at the top, then whatever other information you can determine that will help me know exactly where the actual licenses would be found. Looks like I will have to appeal for help in Cole County.

As a follow-up could you please look for a marriage license by the brides name (I know that may be harder) by looking for Sarah Catherine Inglish's (or maybe Sarah Inglish) marriage to Jonathan Pierce Martin.

I know there is a lot of information in the Moniteau County Historical Society facility, so wanted to start there. With images of what you have in the library, I'll then be able to do the follow-up research in Cole County, either by email or in person. I so appreciate your help.

Hi Jan,
Did you get the e-mail I sent directly to your e-mail account on Monday, subject line -- Moniteau Co Info?
I just wondered since I hadn't had a reply.

Dottie, yes, I'm sorry, I did get your message. There is so much information in your message, that I am having a little trouble matching everything up. But I will quickly run through looking for information that you said you have access to. Like you did, I'll try to answer by individual. I'll include your statement and then my response. Each number addresses a different statement by you.

1 - Cole co marriages for 1822:
July 4, Jonathan P. Martin and Polly Inglish, by George A. Pettigrew, J.P. - Perhaps the one who indexed the marriages made a mistake and put Polly Vivion instead of Polly Inglish. I just don't understand how someone could make that kind of mistake. - Could you please send me a copy of that index entry?

2 - Goodspeed.....the one for John B. Wolfe stated that he married in 1867 to Maggie Martin youngest daughter of Col. Jonathan P. Martin. Just thought you might not know that. - I did not have that information. I just put that in my database and when I entered the marriage date, the system alerted me that the marriage date was after the date of death that I have for Margaret. Now, I only have the death year, so it is probably approximate, or even wrong, so a copy of this statement might be helpful.

3 - Also in "A History of Moniteau Co., Mo" by J. E. Ford -1936 there is a copy of a portrait of Jonathan P. Martin that was done by George Caleb Bingham. - I would love to have a copy of this image of Jonathan. I don't have a picture of very many of the family, so this would be wonderful. Also when including that image, I would like to see the entire page or passage. Even if there is no reference to him in the narrative, maybe there is information about another family member that would help.

4 - Goodspeed.......It did have a story for Charles G. Hickcox who was married to Polly Martin, daughter of Jonathan P. Martin. - I would like to have that story as well. I really like to look at the entire picture, as that helps understand what was going on at that time.

5 - I wasn't able to find any info about Jonathan Martin and his wife as far as death dates, or obits or etc.
If you know their death dates and they are before 1858 we wouldn't have anything such as an obit, but if the dates were after 1858 I might be able to find something. - I do have information concerning their dates, but death date for Jonathan is March 7 1854 and for Sarah Catherine before April 6, 1828. Now I do show that Margaret Shipley Martin (Jonathan's second wife) died on August 2, 1863. You might find something on her. I show that she was buried in Inglish Cemetery where Jonathan and Sarah Catherine are also buried.

6 - Now Valentine Martin did marry again after Catherine died. Don't know if you care about that information or not, but I found an obit for the second wife. If you have any interest in it I will send it to you. - Yes I would like to have that obit. (already had the information on the burial of Valentine and Catherine at Harris Cemetery. Found the information on findagrave.com - 34731813 and 34731904)

7 - I found in the California Democrat ~~ Dec 13, 1877: Mrs. Mary Inglish wife of James died 8 Dec, 1877 - I would like to have a copy of this information, whether it be an obit or just a news item. I like to see the context of these kinds of information.

Sorry I have not responded before this. It's been a busy week. Jan

Well I just looked at a preview of this posting. It looks really nice here when I am keying it, but it has removed all the spaces, returns etc. As a result, I will copy and paste it into an email to you. It will be easier to read there. Sorry for this unfortunate formatting.
