Hello, Here is a bit of interesting information for Standridge's and all other descendants of Martha Pinetree and Henry Cagle. Some fammily stories passed down through the years state that Martha was full blood Cherokee.
Well, after having a DNA test, my MtDNA (through my mothers line) proves that Martha was not full blood Chreokee. Her haplotype is *J*. This is not a native American haplotype.
I would love to hear from other Standridge and Cagle descendants that have had a DNA test.
Best Regards, Steve Ingle

My g-g-grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Whitely, was also a good part Cherokee and I tested Haplogroup J on the mtDNA test, as well. But all that really means is that there was a white maternal ancestor somewhere along the line who messed up the Indian blood!

Hi Marilyn,
I've been searching for the same information for over twenty years. There has been some that think that Martha was in the Blevins family however no one has come up with any proof of that as yet. We may never know for sure but you never know when some clue may come to light.
Best regards,
Steve

Here's some information my genealogy buddy in Little Rock had on Martha Pinetree for you all. I don't know if you already have this or not, but thought I'd pass it along:

Martha Pinetree was a Cherokee Indian who married a Cagle in Warren County, Tennessee, moved to Newton County, Arkansas, moved to Idaho and then back to Arkansas where she died in Ozark.

Reason I remember this is from the Civil War Files. Husband was wounded, had a leg amputated, was back home when bushwhackers killed him.

Martha, I think, was orphaned at an early age in Cherokee Georgia, and was adopted by some white family. But, she was definitely Indian and maybe in some of the Goodenough chronicles.
They called her the Old Indian Woman.

Here is a photo of Henry Cagle & Martha Pinetree. I don't know the date of the photo but I think it was pre civil war. The only other photo I have seen of her is one of her when she was very old.
I use "Pinetree" as Martha's last name for my genealoy records however "Pinetree" is said to have been her Indian name.
Best regards,
Steve
