Several Philadelphia death records for my ancestors list their burial at "German Lutheran Church" in the early 1900's. I can't find this cemetery, tho, and wonder if anyone has more information on it.

thanks,
Sherry

The German Lutheran Cemetery at 31st and Lehigh Sts is no longer there. All bodies were re-interred at Philadelphia Memorial Park, Box 805, Frazer, Pa. 19355. Phone is 644-9150. I don't know the area code. Public housing was built on the cemetery.

I requested info on my family in 1993......I hope the box number and phone number are still good.

Hello,

I saw your message and I have information for you about
German Lutheran Cemetery. In the 1800's the German Lutheran
or as it was known as St. Michael's Zion Lutheran Church
Cemetery was at 4th & Cherry Streets in Philadelphia, Pa.

In the mid 1800's 1860? German Lutheran Cemetery was moved to Lehigh Ave. between 31st & 32nd. Some remains were left behind only to be redicovered when they built the U.S. Mint
that stands there today.

Sadly, in the summer of 1965 German Lutheran was moved yet again to Philadelphia Mamorial Park in Frazier, Pa.
Some remains were left behind as the city built a public school and playground on the site.

There is an area & mass grave of those buried at German Lutheran along with seperate family plots with markers.

The Main Office has all the records and detales of those burried there from German Lutheran.

Records are also available through the German Lutheran Ceminery on Germantown Ave., The German Historical socity on
Girard Ave, The Historical Society & Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania, The Philadelphia Library and St. Michael's Zion Lutheran Church now located on Broad Street near Temple University.

I hope this information helped.

Good luck in your search, Erick

Hi..there was a German Lutheran Cemetery at Lehigh and Ridge Avenues in PHILDELPHIA. .. Somtime about the 1960's the bodies were remomved to a diffezrent cemtery in the western suburbs of the city. A number of my famly membes are among those relocated. I propose, on my own behalf, to try to trace that situation. If you learn anything, please kleet me know. Robert M. I recently visited the German Lutheran Cemetery originally from Philadelphia, relocated to Philadelphia Memorial Park in Frazer PA. There were about 30 grave markers with family names visible which I took photos of (not my family). Dry grass covered most of the markers, which I could not photograph. Let me know which family name you are looking for, and if I have the photo of that gravestone, I'll forward to you. There is also a marker for an unmarked grave with many names readable on it. Also a photo of the large crucifix sign which says "German Lutheran Cemetery Section" (photos attached).

Surnames: Luig ,Salber
I am looking for surnames LUIG and SALBER buried in German Lutheran Church cemetery. If you happen to have any gravemarker photos with either of those names, I'd greatly appreciate a copy.

thanks so much,
