My ancestor Eleanor Willocks is said to have been born Gibraltar c1796. Parents said to be Robert Willocks and Ann, formerly Collins. Alternate spellings: Ellenor, Wallocks.
I would appreciate any information, especially birth and baptism details in Gibraltar.
Eleanor had a cousin, George Edward Willocks, who in October 1865 when he wrote to Eleanor, was the Royal Engineers Office Keeper at Guernsey, on 14 shillings per week.
Eleanor married John Joseph Pallier 27 Mar 1821 St Anne's, Soho, London. Three daughters were baptised in a single baptism ceremony at St Marys in St Marylebone on 21 Aug 1837. Shortly afterwards, they emigrated to Australia, though John Joseph may have gone earlier. I have not ascertained ships or dates of passage. They lived at Narellan, NSW. Descendants include Lamont, Forbes, Waterworth.
Any further information is welcome David Fayle, Canberra

Thank you for your reply posting Dee, and especially for reminding me about the origin of the information indicating Ellen's birthplace as Gibraltar.
It would be nice to get some supporting evidence that Ellen was born in Gibraltar.
I have not had the opportunity into dig into this, but would appreciate advice from any expert reader as to whether we can expect to find Gibraltar baptismal, army or other records for the relevant period.

Dear Dee
I am also researching Eleanor Willocks and the Pallier family history ans have been concentrating on their arrival in the colony and their early life. I have lots of copies of original source material relating to the family of John Joseph Pallier and Eleanor Willocks - including JJ's arrival in the colony as a convict, his early years in the colony, his 3 attemps to bring out his family at government expense, Eleanor's sponsorship of son Joseph, his wife Sophie and children etc, etc.Is any of this info of use to you?
I have only now decided to venture futrher into the family's past. Would love to get in touch and exchange information.
PS> I am actually David Fayle's second cousin!

Re: Willocks - Eleanor Willocks born Gibraltar c1796
Dear Robyn,
When I saw your posting about John Pallier and his arrival in Australia as a convict, I was reminded of that name which I saw on an online Old Bailey website during my search of my Pallier antecedents in London. Perhaps this is your John Joseph? I was looking for a Jane Pallier in Marylebone but have had no luck.
Good luck in your search!

Re: Willocks - Eleanor Willocks born Gibraltar c1796
Thank you for your response. I am almost certain that person is the John Joseph Pallier I am looking for although this crime (theft: simple grand larceny) did not get him transported - only confinement for 6 months.
The John Joseph Pallier I am looking for was tried and convicted of burglary in 1829, Croydon / Surrey Assizes and this resulted in him being sentenced to transportation for life. Convict papers (specifically Ship Musters) indicate that he had a previous conviction (6 months).
I will keep a look out for Jane Pallier for you.
Good luck with your research.

As a Waterworth myself I have been concentrating on James & Mary Ann's decendents of which I am one & a minor twig on the family tree. I would be very interested in seeing some material on GG Grannies family. Plse email me 2wartz@tpg.com.au

If you send me an email to me: pallier [at] bioaccent [dot] com [dot] au I will email you two documents of great interest!
Does your family have any old family photos, as I have a long-term project to scan images of photos, documents etc so they can be distributed widely on DVD? (resolution 300 dpi or better)
