I am searching for information on Solomon Ripinsky, for which Mount Ripinsky was named. I was told he is a relative and I am trying to locate information on who is parents were. He died 21 Mar 1927, and is supposed to be buried in the cemetery at Jones Point. Any burial information would be greatly appreciated. His home was located on Lot 27, Block 1, Haines Townsite. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Solomon and Morris were great uncles of my mother, Rowena Ripin. I have considerable information on Solomon. Contact me if you are still interested.

Carol, I have considerable info on the Ripinsky family tree. I have not come across your name. If you are still looking for a connection please contact me. As far as I know there are several separate Ripinsky families (probably 3). Also, all of the decendents changed their names to Ripin around the turn of the century. Will be glad to help you. Regards, Eric.

Your help would be greatly appreciated. All I know of my line is that it was usually "spelled" Rypinski by my family. My great-grandfather's name was Heyman, born 6 Jul 1850; his father Moritz Rypinski born 1822 in Torun, Poland (Thorn, Germany). Moritz died in 1869. Married Henrietta Hellman, born 20 Jan 1826.
Family story goes Moritz and Henrietta had a large hostelry business and raised cavalry horses for the army. Heyman became a United States citizen supposedly on 22 Mar 1875. Heyman's brother Louis Rypinski also was in Texas. Believe his brother Hermann may have been 2st in Texas and then a jeweler in New York.
Some info kept in synagogue - Gemeinde of Breslau, Germany, Diary 2226/32 of the Breslau Records. (Not sure how to obtain copies--any suggestions? )
I believe the records of them coming to America may have been destroyed by hurricane in 1900's in Galveston, Texas. Not certain of this.
Not experienced researching outside of the United States at this point. To date, I have been gathering what I can in America.
Carol

Carol, You are not related to Solomon Ripinsky as far as I know. I am told that Sol's parents were Hirsh and Malka Ripinski (with an "i"). I have come across the Texas group in the U.S. Census. Surprisingly many of the first names are the same as Sol's relatives. Sol's family was from Rypin, Poland; hence the name Ripinsky. They were Jewish and most Jews did not have surnames until the government mandated family names in 1809 - for tax collection and drafting into the army. If I can be of any additional help let me know. Regards, Eric.

So much for family stories. How far back has your research taken you? I have found the reading of Solomon's life interesting, none-the-less.
Appreciate your quick response and interest in helping. Maybe it will help other researchers, too.
Happy researching.
Carol

Carol, Just came across your message board from 2004. Probably best if you reply directly to my e-mail address. Sol Ripinsky and family always used the "y". Not a single first name sounds familiar so I doubt any connection with Solomon. Have traced Sol and his brothers throughout the U.S. and would be happy to share the info. Also have a homemade CD on Sol and his siblings which I presented in Haines almost 2 years ago. Would be happy to send you a copy. Regards, Eric
