We have not found this family on the 1850 census but a Thomas family Bible, children's death certificates, and such indicate that they were in the Hillsboro, Scott County area in that time period. We believe there to be a connection with the old Jeremiah Thomas found on the 1840 Scott County census being b. abt 1762 in South Carolina. Another possible connection is Young Thomas, also on the 1840 Scott County, 1850 Lauderdale County, and 1860 Mobile (Alabama) census. We're also looking closely at the John W. Thomas (b. abt 1792 South Carolina) who is also in Scott County in 1840.
If you are researching a Thomas family in Scott County in this time period, please contact us. We will be happy to share our information.

Re: Rolad/ Chisham/ Chitty & Thomas-Scott County, Ms-1837-1860s
I find the fact that you have Thomas/Kelly connection interesting. My grandfather had two sisters who married Thomas, and one or two of them merried ino the Kelly fmily. The connection is to Martha Allen Thomas (male)and Roland, Chisham, Chitty, all from MS

Re: Rolad/ Chisham/ Chitty & Thomas-Scott County, Ms-1837-1860s
My sister married into the Roberts family here in East Texas. They were here early as well as my family line, during the 1830's.
There seems to be a pattern of the same family lines crossing MS, AL, LA, TX etc. When I first read old records of how Texas was, not exactly that island of paradise but one of hunger, tragedy, events, battles and death, I am always humbled by these settlers of our early states. Adiene

Re: Josiah Thomas, Jeremiah Thomas, Young Thomas, John W. Thomas-Scott County, Ms-1837-1860s
My gggrandfather was John C? Thomas who immigrated to Scott Co from SC in the 1840s. He had two families. I am descended from one of the sons of the second marriage to Louise Searcy. My father was Miller Marion Thomas, Jr., son of Miller Marion Thomas Sr., son of Irvin Miller Thomas, son of John C Thomas.
