I think I am in the right community. I have found two letters in a wall being demolished in a house in
Giles Co., TN. They are written in 1912, at least one of them is. The other has no year on it, but they appear to be about the same age. The envelopes are postmarked
Pulaski, but on one letter
Bunker Hill is written on the top inside. The letters are written to an
Abernathy, but I don't want to put the name on here just in case the person is still living. The letters don't give a lot of clues but there are a few names listed that might help someone find parts of their family history. So I am going to list them here and if you or anyone else on the list thinks they might be in your family, please let me know and I'll send you the translation I made of them, via e-mail.
These are the surnames listed:
Abernathy/Young/Dunavant/Mims/Sneed/Walls/Deane/Allen/
Gregory/McCrory/Tucker/Thompson/Hardy
Those are spelled as they look in the letter, so they may not be how the surnames are actually spelled.
If I can be sure that none of the people in the letter are still living, then I would like to post both letters on the internet on the
Giles Co. GenWeb site. I have tried looking up the people but it is taking far too much time. So I am hoping some of you will recognize the names and can tell me, off list, whether it is all right to post them now.
One added note, the people in the letters appear to be school teachers and they mention the "Meeting", which I read about in one of the postings on Rootsweb. They mention a "candy breaking" party. They mention these places:
Elkton/Chattanooga/Nashville/Lebanon/Franklin,
KYThey talk of babies being born, marrying, and passing away. So there might be info in them that some might find useful.
Please feel free to contact me about these letters.
Sincerely,
Carol
