Does anyone know of a burial index on the internet for the cemetery on St. Peter's church grounds?

Yes. I do have a St. Peter's Parish register. Is there something you wish me to check for you?

If your register includes those who were buried on the church grounds, i'd like to know if anyone with the last name Gentry or Jentry was laid to rest there.

The only other references that I find for the name Gentry no Jentry)in the "Vestry Book of St. Peter's Parish" are "Att a Vestrey held for St. Peters parish at the House of Mr. John Park the 22 October 1701:

p. 78, "To Nicholas Gentry for clothes for Mabel - wood and ffunerall Charges for Idem }899 Ca. 72 (971).

p. 89, " At a vestry held for St Peters Parish at the House of Mr. James Moss the 27 ffeb: 1702/3: George Alvis aploying him Selfe to his vestry for help to Cleere the roades in his perscinct is ordered John Tyler, Richard Maidlin, Nicholas Gentry, Thomas, Tinsley, John Burley and all the Tithables from thence up to north side of Totopotomoys Creeke.

p. 357, "Peter sone to Samuell Gentry bapt. 10 day of Aprill 1687; Eliz. daut. to Nich: Gentry bapt 29 day of August 1689; Nicholas Son of Nicholas Gentrey baptiz the 30 May 1697.

p. 358, "Mabell daut. of Nicho Gentrey bapt the 13 Dec 1702."

There are some listings and interments, but no other mention is made of Gentry except as the "ffunerall" mentioned above.

Hope this helps.

Millie

I've searched all over the internet and have found 1 page of burial records at St. Peters but no Gentrys mentioned. The earliest stones are so old that they are probably not ledgible any more. One article i did read mentions there are old "small etchings and writings" on the exterior of the church building its self. Not sure exactly what kind kind of etchings though. My hunch tells me that since Nicholas Gentry moved up north into Hanover county in his later years, he may have been buried on the grounds of one of two churches that were much closer to him then St. Peters when he passed. 1)The current Slash Church (which during Nicholas' time occupied the same land as an early Church of England) or another church on Mechumps Creek that has since been lost as well.

There are no known Streets or Waddys buried at St. Peter's. For a complete list, go to interment.net. Click on United States, then Virginia, then New Kent. You may note that the church is incorrectly listed as Saint Peter.
There are probably people buried there for whom there is no record.
