Emigrants from Falköping, Skaraborg

On my website Emigrant.se you find emigrants from the Falköping area in Skaraborg, Sweden. Falköping had at one time 52 parishes.

Found emigrants are presented in two kinds of lists. One by the birth parish and the other by the state/country the emigrants died in.

If there is anyone who search for their ancestors from one or more parishes in Falköping area and know about the family, I will try to help. In return I like to have information about the family in the States. I building a data base of the emigrants and their families, so far I have 38 000 individualls.

I am looking for emigration information for Victor Hammar. He was born 28 May 1860 in Sweden (I don't know any specific area in Sweden). He immigrated to US in 1889. He may have first gone to Minnesota based on census information that he had a child Ruth KS Hammar in 1889 in Minnesota. This information is based on census data 1900 Idaho USA. He was the father of my grandfather Carl Hammar who was born in Idaho. Any help that you can provide is appreciated.

Hi,

No, your Hammar isn't from Falköping area.

I did how ever a search in the CDs Emibas and Emigranten (the same as you find at Ancestry) if I could find your Victor, but no luck with the info I got from you. Could the surname Hammar been taken after arriving to US? Or you know any about the origin of the name?

You could make a try on the website http://www.genealogi.se/roots/ Anbytarforum.

My mother didn't say that the name Hammar had changed but maybe the spelling (Hammour?)I know she said that when she was little people liked to spell it like a hammer. I wish I had asked her more years ago but I did not. I had been on the web site that you gave me, Swedish Roots, and I also saw your name in one of the places that I went before seeing your name here and sending you the email. If you have any other ideas of where I might be able to get further information, please let me know. I was thinking I might see if I could find a church in the area where he settled in Idaho and maybe find out something that way.

It seems that Victor left a son behind in Sweden. When Victor and his new wife emigrated the son moved to his mother's parents.
He kept the surname Karlsson all his life Karlsson, Seth Gottfrid b 18860628 in Västra Ed (H) d 19570424 in Törnsfall (H). Married 19100203 to Andersson, Eva Maria b 18841016 d 19510621. They both are burried at the churchyard of Gamleby kyrkogård in grave D 94-95 (from the DVD graveyards in Swe). You can contact the office at norratjust.pastorat@svenskakyrkan.se to find out who is the "owner" of the grave. Hopefully it's descendant.
