My great, great grandmother was Martha Allen (married to Peter Bramble) from Montserrat born around 1836. I have heard that the Allen family is descended from the many Irish families who lived there in the 17th century.
I have no connection to the Panama Allen's. But am looking further into the Allen's of Montserrat. Happy to share information.

Hello there, Bernie,
I replied to your message earlier because I believe that we share the same roots. I was born in Montreal but my father's side of the family was from Montserrat. He was one of the youngest of 11 children. One of his older sisters was a Martha Allen. I don't know the name of her wife but I do have the names of a child and some grandchildren. Perhaps you can contact. I'd love to hear from you.

Hi Jennifer. I don't have much information but I know that my great grandfather James Bramble was born in Montserrat approx 1862. His parents Peter Bramble and Martha Allen would have been born around 1830's. Slavery was abolished in 1834 so I assume their parents were slaves or a slave master may have fathered them. the Montserrat Registry office cannot find any birth certificates and it is extremely hard and slow communicating with them. I have a photo of James and he is black (fairly light) but has blue eyes as most of my family has. James was an able seaman and I am going to investigate his naval records to try to find a place of birth.
Hopefully some of this fits your puzzle and we can both help one another. I would love to find out more.
Best of luck
Bernadette

Does anyone have any information on a Hannah Allen born in Montserrat during the 1840s. From what I undestand she married a man named William Skerritt. I know of one son named John Hugh Skerritt born in the 1860s.
