Abergavenny PHILLIPS, WATKINS, DAVIES

Greetings ...

I'm trying to find any references to my grandfather's parents, John PHILLIPS and Clara WATKINS, both (to the best of my knowledge) from Abergavenny.

My grandfather, Clarence Humphrey PHILLIPS, was born in (Western?) Pennsylvania, USA, 28 April 1894. It is not known whether his parents married before or after they emigrated from Wales.

This probably places his parents' birthdates in the 1860s or early 1870s.

Clara had some sisters who also emigrated; unfortunately, I've misplaced the note I'd made of their names, but one was definitely Hannah WATKINS.

At the moment, I'm not entirely certain what the DAVIES connection was, but I have a feeling it might have been either John's or Clara's mother's maiden name.

John deserted his family and disappeared (I estimate somewhere around 1900), so might have established another family somewhere ...

I am looking for any remaining relitives I may have in Usk,
Monmouthshire, Wales. My Grandmother, Nell Ellen Williams born 1873 (?) was raised with a large family. Her Father or Grandfather was the Blacksmith and the shop was turned into an auto repair shop. Her cousin was Dizzy Williams the postmaster. She married a Wiseman and had two children Francis 1905 and Zalma 1907. Her husband died and she remarried a Thomas Robinson and left on the St. Paul for America in 1914.I can fill most of the rest in from there but would love to find any remaining family in Usk.
Thank You, Nancy

Dear Mike:

I posted a message to the message board of The Shire of Monmouth, Wales Query Forum regarding my Great-Grandmother Lucretia Lyddon (later married to John Cleal of Bristol, England). I wondered if you take the time to read it and see if you are aware of any Lyddons in Cardiff, Wales. I will not go into too much depth here as all the information is posted in that message.

Any help or assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you kindly.

Sincere regards,

Tredegar: LEWIS

I just found a paper that states one of my ancestors was born in Tredegar. I live in the U.S. and would need to do my research at a FHC, but it appears that their records don't start early enough for me.

Any idea where I could find a baptism record for Cecelia LEWIS, born 1 Mar 1803 at Tredegar -- or a marriage record for her parents: Jenkin Lewis and Cecelia LEWIS?

I appreciate any help or ideas. Thank you.

Just a tidbit to pass along: there were Lewises, apparently friends of my Williams family. There is a Bill Lewis in a photo from about 1920. My family was originally from Tredegar and lived also in Abergavenney. A recently found marriage of my great great grandfather, Edward Williams and Mary Evans, in Merthyr Tidfil, in 1848 has as witnesses an Ann Rogers and Edward Lewis. Edward and Mary eventually had their residence in Rhymney where my great grandfather, Evan Ivor Williams was born, and then Tredegar.
