I am looking for any information regarding the Durshimer family who lived in or around Honesdale during the period 1880-1930. Name was often spelled Dershimer as well. Several burials were supposedly in the Riverdale Cemetery.
Thanks,
Frank

I cannot help you with that time frame but I am trying to find information on Martin Durscheimer or Dershimer who's Grandson William Sox lived in Wayne County (probably South Canaan) in the early 1800's. Martin was married to a Catherine ______ and had a daughter named Maryaretha Dershimer who married a George Sox before 1777. William Sox was born in either NY or PA on 20 October 1778. William Sox's daughter Mary Sox married Conrad Fredrick Enslen 29 Feb 1824 in South Canaan, Wayne County. Conrad is my Great Great Grandfather. Also, do you know anyone with information about George Enslin, (b: about 1766 and married Catherine Kete Swingly about 1792 in Wayne County, PA) a blacksmith and farmer who immigrated from Germany and was one of the early settlers of South Canaan, Wayne County, PA. If you have any information please write. My email address is al@enslen.net. Thanks.

I was given a very old New Testament by my grandmother Ferne (maiden name Atkinson) before she passed away. There were records kept in it and the first name is a Lydia Durshimer, daughter of George Durshimer (d. 1857) and Anna ?. Lydia married a John Garhart and had a daughter named Emma who married George Atkinson. They had a son named George W Atkinson who is my great grandfather. The Durshimers were in the Hawley, PA area. I'm looking for more information on the Durshimers and Garharts in that area.

Re: DURSHIMER of Honesdale area 1880-1930
Lydia Durshimer was the sister of my great grandfather, Henry, and also the sister of Orvilla Durshimer Rowe. Lydia's father George was the son of Lawrence Durshimer. My great grandfather, Henry, last lived and died in Honesdale where he is buried with his two sons William and Lewis. His other son, Frank was my grandfather who died in Brooksville, Fl. Amanda, Henry's only daughter died in Detroit, Mi. I have other information I can send to you.

That's very interesting. I found a photo tucked inside the bible. I don't know if it is Lydia or her daughter Emma or even someone else. Interesting what you say about Phillip Gerhart. For some reason I have it listed as John Garhart. My grandmother had it written down as Gerheart. Please send any information you have. Seems that there's a McFarland in there. I think one of the Durshimer sisters married into that name.

Re: DURSHIMER of Honesdale area 1880-1930
Have you found the information you were looking for yet? Martin Dorscheimer was my 5xgreat granfather who emigrated from Germany on the ship "Halifax. It arrived in Philaqdelphia 20 October 1745 and 2 days later declared allegiance to King George II. Martin was a cordwainer and settled in Chestnuthill Township, Northampton Co Pa. I am descended through his elder son Manuel who was bequeathed the land and buildings (to be received after his mother Catherine's death). Son Conrad and daughter Margaret (Margaretha) Sax were each to receive 16 pounds 13-4 at that time. Martin's will is located in Easton Pa under the name "Turshimer" and was dated 4 March 1775. In the 1790 census the property next door to Manuel was owned by a family named "Saks". Mildred Pretzer has published a book about the descendents of Manuel from which I got this information - I hope it was helpful.

Re: DURSHIMER of Honesdale area 1880-1930
Thanks for your response. I have located the information I was seeking and found my ancestors graves in Honesdale. I contributed a significant amount of information to the latest book Ms Pretzer published regarding our family and have a copy of the book.
Thanks Again,
