Do not have info. on Johndrows in
Chippewa County. My great- great grandfather George
Johndrow, however moved from VT to
Salina,
Kansas around 1880 or so. His father, Christopher
Johndrow (or
Christophe Gendreau) was born in "French Canada" according to census records, (presumably Quebec). I looked up records in the French-Canadian Geneaological Library in the "Blue
Books" and found
Christophe Gendreau married Scholastique
Brouillet at St Damase in 1826. Many other
Gendreau had marriage records at St. Damase and St. Hyacinthe going back to the late 1700's. There was a Charles Gendrea marriage record at St. Cesaire, Quebec but I do not have the date. It may have been around the time I was researching,(early 1800's)My family has "Indian" roots, but we are pretty sure they are Abenaki, not
Chippewa.
I am looking for the wife(wives)of Christopher
Johndrow, (Maria G.) and his son George
Johndrow b. 1856, (Jennie
Goodrow b.1866).They lived for a time in Ripton VT., but I am unable to locate records on them from when they were there, approx. 1850's to 1870's.They moved to KS after that time.
One note about the
Gendreau line. There is a line that began with Pierre
Gendreau dit Lapoussiere in 1674 from St. Denis on the isle of Oleron off the coast of France. There is a coat of arms for the family name.
