Col. Robert Phaire and cordwainers?
I have a printout from the Cork Historical and Archaeological Society concerning Colonel Robert Phaire,"Regicide". It was written by W. H. Welply, and concerns Phaire's' ancestors, history and descendants. I was given it when I was in England researching my own branch of the Phairs who moved fom Ireland to Yorkshire and then to Lancashire. The one thing that keeps popping up in my searches is that my family seem to have been cordwainers in the early days. I'd be interested in hearing if anyone else has found a similar connection.

William Phair (1802-1865) Killeshandra, Co. Cavan
Hallo Margaret. I can't say that we can make any cordwainer connection. But we have reached a brick wall tracing further back from my husband's great great grandfather William Phair (1802-1865) who was from Killeshandra, Co Cavan. Apparently a lot of Phair/Phaires in Co Cork. Do you have any information that would indicate a Cork/Cavan connection? Best wishes, Margery

William Smothergill, Belturbet m. Jane Phair, Killeshandra 1845
My ggg grandfather William Smothergill from Belturbet married Jane Phair in Killeshandra in 1845. He was a widower with many children, most of whom went with William & Jane to Connecticut. A few older sons went to the Danish West Indies, a popular destination for residents of County Cavan. There are Phaires still on St. Croix. See the St. Croix Message Board and my own site on emigration from County Cavan to St. Croix ( http://maxpages.com/irishcrucians).

no Fitzgeralds' or Pierces' in the Phair line
Julie, sorry there are no Fitzgeralds' or Pierces' in the Phair line. However I have looked up NSW BDM and found the following entry: Ref 2785/1905 Marriage Thomas S Pierce & Mary A Fitzgerald at Woollahra (Sydney). If you wish to obtain a copy of this registration (it will give you a fair bit of information) I suggest that you go into your search engine and type in New South Registry of Births Deaths & Marriages. You can pay by credit card (and you will be pleasantly surprised by the exchange rate!). Good Luck, Margery

Mary Phair came to Australia aboard the ship "Magistrate" 1838
Hello, Do you know anything of Mary Phair who came to Australia aboard the ship "Magistrate" in 1838 with husband John Duke and their two sons, James and John who were born at Queenstown in 1832 and 1836. Mary's mother was Anne Landon, father Thomas Phair.
I believe they came from Bandon, Cork..
Any information what-so-ever or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Re: William Phair (1802-1865) Killeshandra, Co. Cavan
Greetings, My name is Michelle Richards-Vialet. My mother was Marjorie Phaire Richards May 2, 1930 to October 17, 2007.
This may answer the brick wall you came across, as such the phaires on St.Croix, came to this brick wall as well. My great grandfather's name was William Phaire son of James Phaire from ireland, Killeshandra or Portlongfield Cavan County. I have waited a long long time for this moment in time.
(Phaire background history: It is believed that John James Phaire (phair or pharr) came to St.Croix in the late 1840's this is the era in which many irish were hired by danish plantation owners to manage their estates. We are not sure which is the original line of ancestory for the phaires on the island of st.croix. we know they were from one of the townships in Cavan Country in North Central Irelnd. Also a John Ferdinand Phaire, James Phaire, and James Emmanuel Phaire.)
My mother Marjorie was the daughter of Ernest C. (Casma, Kasma) Phaire, Pastor and Caroline Malvina Williams Phaire, midwife. They were married on the island of St.Croix in 1817 by the honorable D. Hamilton Jackson.
My mother had the following brothers and sisters, Elaine Phaire, Esther Phaire, Ernest M. Phaire, and John W. Phaire. She is survived by her only bother Paul W. Phaire who resides currently in kentucky. My mother Marjorie Phaire passed on 10/17/2007, thus I am just returing from St. Croix, which has ignited my search once again for Phaires from St.Croix, Ireland, scotland, France and those Phaires that we have lost contact with over the years. Our family lived in New York until we moved to St.Croix in 1980. It was also my mothers dream to connect with her family from ireland.
My mothers father Ernest Casma Phaire was a Rev of the reformed methodist church in Roseau Dominica where he performed missionary duties. Her mother was a mid-wife that studied abroad in denmark. We know that his mother was Alice O'reilly, the 2nd wife of his father William Phaire. His sisters by his mother Alice were Eulalie Phaire and Lucind Phaire. His father was also married to Mary Eliza Williams First wife(her children were Mariel and August Phaire, and 3rd wife Elizeria Bough, whose children were Lillian, Edna, Isa, Vida, Cecil, and Wallace Phaire.
I look forward to hearing from the phaires from all over the world to see how we can finally bring this family history together. God Bless!
