Hello Elaine,
I too am looking for Robert Gordon Boyle as he was married to Lydia Nelder. I have found a great deal of information through PEI baptisms on the government website.

http://www.gov.pe.ca/archives/baptismal

There are many Boyles listed and the Boyles brothers parents are Judith McCormack and Richard Boyle as listed on the many children that they had baptised around PEI. These are just a few. I hope that this helps you for you have already helped me by confirming that Robert Gordon was related to Lemel et al as I suspected. The PEI marriages, deaths and baptisms are also on line at the LDS website but as I do not have broadband I can't really get anywhere with this at the moment.

1 Boyle, Ambrose 13 November 1838 3 April 1839 Judith MacCormack Richard Boyle Crapaud
2 Boyle, Frances 28 May 1833 28 May 1835 Judith Boyle Robert Boyle Charlottetown
3 Boyle, Lemuel Cambridge 9 August 1840 25 March 1841 Judith McCormack Richard Boyle Crapaud
4 Boyle, Margaret 7 July 1822 14 September 1822 Judith Boyle Robert Boyle

Hope this helps- Yours Kim

hello!! robert gordon boyle was my great great grandfather!! i am so excited that there others looking for him! robert and lydia had seven or eight children. mary nelder boyle was the oldest. she married a samuel dawson and stayed on the island. my great grandmother was emma grace boyle. she immigrated to us in 1880s. ada moved to boston. william was only son, and moved to us.ellen was raised by richard and judith. she married a samuel sherron and stayed on the island. minnie came to us had 2 daughters and died in1900. i find mention of a lilly. she was still a boyle in 1915 when robert died. but when emma died in 1948, she was listed as lilly taylor. i cant find her anywhere. just found a bessie maud boyle. family lore says lydia died giving birth to 8th child. could this be bessie?

Hi- Thanks for your replies re here and ancestry. I am interested in this because Lydia was the sister of my ancestor John Walk Harris Nelder. I always like to follow the siblings etc as they can lead to clues. I agree that she probably did die in childbirth but it is odd that he took some of the children and not all to the US; perhaps they were old enough to look after themselves. AT any rate, I am going to try and search the parish records on the LDS now that I have broadband hooked up. I would love to know more about her family if you want to share and I can tell you what I have. bye for now- kim

hi back! very exciting to hear from you. my sister and i made a trip to PEI this summer searching for clues. we found no cemetary records for lydia or any other nelders.did john nelder stay in PEI? i did find alot of Nelders in Newfoundland, and thought maybe family moved there. lydias one daughter ellen was living with her boyle grandparents in 1881, whenshe was 13. there were 2 other younger girls, lily and bessie. do you know anything about them? could lydias siblings have raised them? I dont want to sound stupid, but what is LDS? I would love to know more about the nelders! if you go back far enough, we share grandparents! hope to hear from you soon, lisa

Hi Lisa- I emailed you offline but didn't get a reply so i am trying this way. I don't really know anything about Lydias family so sorry to disappoint you but I have alot of research on her siblings so I can help you there if you want.
I am interested how you know the names of her children as all I could definitively find out was from the few baptisms I found. Presumably this was passed down through your family?

The LDS the the mormon church- the church of latter day saints and they have put many records online that you can search through- some are indexed- some are not. Most of the PEI ones are not though the PEI government have the baptisms online which has been a big help to me.

My John Nelder- first born 1815 in Plymouth( we think) son of susanna and Joseph went on to Ontario- the manitoulin Island where many generations of my family hail from.

As far as I know:

Harriet married John Robblee and stayed on PEI.
Elizabeth married David Cameron and stayed on PEI.
Samuel married Mary Maria Susan Sherman and went over to Salisbury, Westmorland, New Brunswick, Canada - many of their kids went down to the US-alot of various Nelders in Maine
Joseph and James died young
Susanna married John Locke and stayed on PEI.
Mary Ann married John Issac Myers and stayed on PEI.
and then of course Lydia.

I have seen some Nelders on Newfoundland and not sure who they belong to. I don't think it is anything to do with Nicholas's lot( josephs brother who married rebecca) and I thought it was only Nick and Joseph who came over to the "new world" from devon.
( obviously they could have been related somehow further back as Nelder is not a common name )

Most of this Nelder line come from Cornwood and Ermington in Devon( though there is another one of Devon with a few Nelders and a lineage in London as well- perhaps they were all related pre that period I don't know as I have not been able to trace back pre 1600's) I was just down on Holiday in Cornwall and we came back via dartmoor in devon so I got a chance to see the churches in both places- was interesting)

Unfortunately- I have many docs backed up and waiting to be transcribed or/and translated from the french in many of my family lines so I tend to flit from person to family and get caught up in other things! Please get back to me if you want any thing else on Lydias family and I would love to know more about what you have on her children as that may give us a clue to help each other- bye for now- kim

hi kim!! i didnt recieve any regular emailfrom you. bummer. thank you for all the info.youve been busy. im the same way and get caught up in one family, then another. i have been in contact with an ancestor of emmas sister. thats been fun. i saw somewhere that two of the nelder boys dide in the same year. how tragic. i couldnt imagine losig 2 children in one year. i wonder if it was small pox or something contagious. do oyu know if any of them took in lydias children when she died. roberts parents had ellen but there were younger ones. what i have found so far is that Lydia and robert had 8 kids. Mary nelder boyle,1860. she married samuel dawson and styed on pei. they had a very large family. Minnie was next,1863. she moved to US prior to 1883 married, had 2 girls, ruth and vera coulter and died in 1900 at 37. neither of her girls had children. Emma, my great gramma, was next 1865. she had 5 kids. lillian, marion, my gramma, robert, walter, and naomi. William boyle was born in 1866. came to new york and had no kids.
ellen,1867 stayed on island. married Smauel Sherron and had a large family. Bessie born 1872. moved to washington, had kids, died pretty young. i found no birth or baptismal records for her and had never heard of her, but gave her son middle name nelder, so im sure she belongs. Bessie Maud Boyle DAvie. and last is lily. i cant find anything on her except mention of her i other peoples obits. married name taylor in vancouver. thats the ghost im most currently chasing. talk to you soon, lisa

thanks kim. i did not have all that info. somehow i stumbled on bessie and at first didnt think she was part of our boyle family. never never heard mention of her in any documents but she gave her one son the middle name nelder, so im sure she is. i think because she died relatively young, but i dont think the davie family kept in contact with the boyles. Robert remarried in 1898, and we found their marriage license. it said that his last marriage ended on 12/23/1876. thats the first i found a definative date of death for lydia nelder boyle. i can scan the license if you want a copy. talk to you soon, lisa

Hi Lisa,
I do think that Bessie was definitely a Boyle as I haven't included all of the info on the post and that is where I found the birth info for her on her childrens certificates. Some say PEI, others have said Tryon PEI . I would love to see that marriage of Robert if you don't mind- can you contact me off list and I can send you the full birth info for the children?
talk to you soon- kim
