Help!!!!!

I am descended from George Clifton, born 1761 and died 1840 in Georgia. He fought with Delaware in the Revolutionary War. I think I have pretty good info on his descendants but can not find anything factual abt his parents or birthplace.

I find where several have traced his parents as Levin Clifton and Lydia.

I would appreciate any factual info anyone could share supporting this connection and will of course share what I have if you would like. I'm just trying to find any support for the Levin connection.

Thanks,

Rick Clifton

Found this record ...

It looks like he's a Junior, although I'm not sure of the person's spelling (or shorthand) capabilities back in the 1770's.

I see where it was quoted he served 'under Capt. Daggett in Col. Vaughn's regiment'. I saw nothing in the Revolutionary War Rolls to support this, or anything that mentioned a Daggett. Joseph Vaughn was first a Capt., then Lt. Col., then a Major before he finished his commission. There WAS a Capt. Peter Jacquett so maybe the quoted piece above was just a misspelling or maybe misheard.

I DID find George listed under both Capt. John Wil(l)son (muster rolls dated Sept.1778-Feb.1779) and Capt. John Corse's (muster rolls dated Mar.1779-Apr.1780) companies, both commissioned in 'Delaware Regiment of Foot' soldiers.

When you go back that far, it really is difficult to find parentage. Good luck!

Thanks so much for the info. I had not seen this record. It is definitely old George, even references his death in 1840. I have quite a bit on his RW service, including where his widow, Millie Brown, applied for his pension after his death. Evidently, he moved (or moved back) to Georgia after the RW. The family then moved to Alabama and he died in Georgia in 1840. Wish I knew the whole story.

Do you have any interest in the Cliftons or just like to help folks that are struggling?? LOL!! I could use all the help I could get!!

Rick

Nope - no interest in the name; call it a random act of kindness. I know your frustration - I have several people that I can't find parents names for.
One of the things I would suggest that you check into, is the D.A.R. records. I believe there is a database on Ancestry although I could not find it easily. These records typically give ancestor names going back pretty far and how they are related. Although sometimes it's an "allied family name" looking for membership to DAR - that makes it a little tougher to find.
(Just curious - I saw a "Whittington Clifton" - is he related to your George? If so, perhaps HIS or other sibling's trail of paperwork could lead to parentage.)

I am interested too in the history of the Revolutionary War, especially as it pertains to Delaware. :-)

Happy hunting!

Here's an interesting link - although this doesn't help much with parentage ...
