A New Land Beckoned: German Immigration to Texas, 1847-1861
A New Land Beckoned: German Immigration to Texas, 1844-1847

These 2 books about Texas and includes a list of the Germans that went to Texas. To view any pages in these books one must subscribe to the World Records Collection.

Please note that these 2 books about Germans in Texas should be available to subscribers to the US Records instead of the World Records Collection.

I have been trying to contact Ancestry already about these 2 books in the wrong collection but I can not get my email to go through.

They will just tell you what they told me-which is a lot of baloney. They said if the records were gathered from German sources they belong in World Records. Of course, there is no way for anyone to tell where the sources come from. As far as I am concerned they are telling a big fat story here. They tried to pull this last year. It's all about trying to push all subscribers into the more expensive records. Ultimately, I think it will turn around and bite them for pulling these kinds of stunts.

I'm quite familiar with the baloney from Ancestry. I'll just send them this paragraph after they tell me "how to search"

"BOOK: New Homes in a New Land: German Immigration to Texas, 1847-1861 by Ethel H. Geue; Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co, 1970, reprinted 1999. A sequel to A New Land Beckoned, listed just above, this book contains the names of 5,600 German immigrants taken from 105 passenger lists. The person's age, place of residence in Europe, and dates of departure and arrival are given, along with the Texas county the immigrant settled in. This book is presently out of print, but can be found at many libraries."

Got a reply from Ancestry.

They wanted to know how I got to either of the books to search.

I was very clear that the books are in the wrong collection and their answer is to ask how did I find the books.

No surprise to me. I did think they would give me the whole spiel on "How to Search Ancestry's Databases" though.

It is quite clear that Ancestry has no intention of putting the books in the right collection. The aim is to generate more money from subscribers.

Lisa with The Generations Network has fixed these two books which were placed in the wrong collection. This has not been corrected thanks to Lisa.

Thank you mbmjlm as it seems you had something to do with getting this corrected.

I received two emails from Lisa about this matter. The books are now included in the US Records Collection.

Yesterday morning I went to the books and they were still in the World Records Collection. Just before noon (EST) yesterday I emailed Ancestry Support and again told them the books were in the wrong Collection and gave them the information on the books.

Thanks also to Lisa.

I got another reply from Ancestry Support. Boy are they a joke.

One line:

"I think that it may be a technical issue so please call in 1-800-262-3787 thanks."

Then the standard "If I may be of some help" type line.

Actually I think we both had something to do with and thanks to Lisa it is done. I found another in Louisiana and pointed that one out as well. One problem I see is that when we find a book that we think should be in the US collection, there is no way to tell because we do not have access to even a description. By the way, they were right in that there was a "technical problem" but make that a "tech" problam because Lisa said it was human error. Someone clicked the wrong check mark and did not go back to see if it was in the right place.

Lisa with TGN has helped again. There were three more records that I had found and thought should be included in US Records. These were "Germans in Colonial Georgia" and two "Swedish in Delaware" records. These have now been corrected thanks to Lisa. It is so great when someone at Ancestry really cares about we subscribers.
