I am researching my geneology. I am trying to locate any info regarding Eva Elizabeth Steinert, born in Tscherbakovka, Russia and married Leonhart Winter. They had several children including David which she died in childbirth with. David died shortly after. Leonhart later remarried Catherine Kuxhaus and came over to the USA and went into Okeene, Okla. However apparently some Steinert's that were perhaps Eva"s cousins had come to the USA earlier and lived in the Shattuck Okla area. They used to go visit Leonhart in Okeene and were still visiting his son, John Leonhart Winter that had married Mary Magdeline Haffner in Okeene where they lived. I am the village coordinator for Tscherbakowka (aka Shcherbakovka) and will be happy to see what we have in our database the first of the week. No time to work on it tonight and am leaving for a 2-day AHSGR Kansas Roundup tomorrow early. I know that we have been in touch previously, but don't think it was on the Steinerts. Are you familar with the "Pleve charts" (research done in Russia by Dr. Igor Pleve)? We have just received 7 for the village of Shcherbakovka as of June 2000. Some of these were on order for 2 1/2 years ! But the info is wonderful and worth the wait. We (The Lower Volga Village Project) have already placed an order to have Winter, Hanschu, and Zwetzig done (and considered Haffner but didn't get enough interest to make that decision). We have been forewarned that the wait will probably be about 3 years this time. He gets further and further behind. Anyone interested in the 3 names mentioned above, get in touch with me for more info. Or if you are interested in the 7 that we just received (Laubhan, Wassenmuller, Kraft, Reisig, Oblander, Stricker or Becker and also Ehrlich that was done in 1998), get in touch with me on those too.

I just started doing genealogy work again!! I am very excited about what all has been happening in the last 27 years. I need some help can you help me? My great grandfather is George J Steinert, he was born on May 2,1886 in Tscerbakowka, Russia. His father was John Fredrick Steinert who died in 1897, I think in that same village. His mother was Christine Oblander and she died in 1890 in that same village also I think. He has 2 brothers John and Jacob. and in Oct. 1906 they came to USA and settled in Shattuck,OK. When his mother died his dad got remarried to Marie Sinner. It also says that after his dad died it "became necessary that he make his home with friends, the Jacob Blehm." I got most of this imformation from the obituary of my great grandfather. But that is all I have been able to find. Please help!! Thanks so much!!

Cheri, your great-great-grandfather was John Fredrick Steinert III. His parents were Johann Friedrich II and Eva Elizabeth Reisig and HIS parents were Johann Friedrich I and Maria Catharin Zwetsig and HIS parents were Johann Daniel Steinert and Eva Catharina Beier and HIS parents were George Steinert and Helena Dorotea (Unknown parentage).

The Schneiders came from Schwab, Russia, but I don't know anything about the Zwetzigs. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
