I have the obits for Herman Monk and Minnie Monk but it still does not clairfy for us what Minnie's maiden name was. Looking for any connection anyone has to the Monk family of this region. Their children's surnames are Simpson living in Rathdrum, Id in 1940, Jacobs of Priest River, ID and Matthews of Bole, Montana all in 1940. Herman and Minnie were in Waterville, Douglas Co. Wa in 1900. We suspect her maiden name may have Thormahlen

Hi Deb, if you're looking for Minnie's maiden name, I'd post on the Illinois Unknown County Message Board. They were married about 1884-1885 (from Census calculations). Herman was b. in IL and also their first child Frank. Her maiden name would be on their marriage license. Successful Hunting

Thank you. Would you believe it but we did eventually find her last May. We used the Random Acts of Genealogy Kindness website and then I had to go to Woodford County to get her marriage license in Illinois - that county is not online yet. We sent a letter to anyone with that surname in Wash, etc. We got a reply back and lo and behold it was her grandchildren. One of her great grandsons came from Wa and visited us in July for a morning and then we went there for 10 days in Nov. It was great seeing where she lived and meet people who knew here. I will remember your tips for further research.
