My gggrandfather Malcolm MACKINNON, born in 1781, Pabbay Island, Harris Scotland. His father was Donald Ban MacKinnon. Malcolm married Kristy MACDONALD. He came to Cape Breton with his family about 1838-40. Son William, b.1811, Donald, b. 1816, Norman, b. 1813 John, b. 1823 (gggrandfather), and daughters Effie, b. 1821 and Christina, b. 1825. They first settled in Middle River, Cape Breton and in 1849-50 they moved to Cape North, Cape Breton. I am looking for any information about the ancestors and decendents of Malcolm and Kirsty. Contact me at wmackin588@aol.com.

John MacLeod, I do have a copy of the book you mentioned, Cape North and Vicinity. Right now I have loaned it out to my sister in an attempt to get her interested in our family history. I too was in Cape Breton last summer. I have first cousins living in Baddeck and Sydney. Spent a day in Cape North visiting the old homestead, stopping off at the local museum and cemetery where my grandparents are buried. I now live in Statham Georgia, about 50 miles northeast of Atlanta. My paternal grandmother was a MacLeod. It was her (Katie MacLeod's) father that is also discussed in the book. The one who was born in the open boat. Katie married Neil MacKinnon, a son of John who was one of Malcolm's sons. Several years after my dad died,(Neil's son Daniel incorrectly listed in the book as Donald), my mother, Barbara Rimmer MacKinnon, married Mel MacLeod, son of Dan MacLeod, my grandmother Katie's brother. My email is wmackin588@aol.com. John, maybe there is a MacLeod connection? I have Uncle Dan MacLeod's old scrapbook. It provides a good review of his family history. Please drop me an email to discuss this further. I am trying to find a connection in Harris Scotland to find information on Malcolm MacKinnon's and Kristy MacDonald's ancestors.

This message for William.
Do you have the Book of Cape North and Vicinity which includes the pioneer familys of Cape Breton?? The MacKinnons are in this book. Malcolm is mentioned as well as his sons William, John, Norman and Donald. I was in Cape Breton last year in August-Sept., Bay St. Lawrence area. Would love to talk about it with you.

Bill McKinnon, I am trying to trace the MacDonald's on my Mother's side. I have a copy of the funeral notice for my great-grandfather's brother, Ronald MacDonald. He was born July 11, 1815 on the Isle of Skye and came to Cape Breton at an early age. It says "he was a pioneer and oldest landmark of the district". He died June 10, 1904 at South Ridge, Aspy Bay, Cape North, Cape Breton. Great grandfather was Angus MacDonald, b. May 1, 1842 in Skye, m. June 16, 1863 to Alexina Buchanan, d. March 1874 from smallpox. Might there be any mention of them in your book about Cape North pioneers? I'd appreciate any info you could pass on to me. TIA, Judy
