Hans Ostensen served as City Treasurer about 1900. He owned a clothing store in the Granite Block. Was married and had 2 children (Harold and Floyd) by 1903.

Sometime after 1910 his wife, Elvira Johnson Ostensen, remarried to Christian Olsen, a widower, in Washington State.

I am trying to find out what happened to Hans. One snippet of information I found says that a Hans Ostensen died when the building where his haberdashery was collapsed on him. Unfortunately the information did not say where that was.

Thank you for the information. I have posted a query on the Kootenai County board to see what they know. Since posting my initial query on this board I found (according to the Grand Rapids Press) that in 1905 Hans Ostensen filed for voluntary bankruptcy for his haberdashery. No doubt he moved to Idaho after that.
