This photography studio took my Uncle David Eugene Mills and his bride wedding picture. It was taken sometime in the late 1930's or early 1940's.
I was hoping to find the Gilbert family who have possibly kept these records and maybe they may have the names and address of my Uncle and his bride at the time of the picture. I would also like to get in contact with my first cousins of this union. Of course I am doing a family tree and want to complete this branch as well as many others.
Please contact me, I would appreciate it greatly.

Thank you
Pat

The Gilbert family sold the business, and, therefore, all the records in 1965. But, photo studios never kept anything over about 3 years anyway.

According to the city directory, the only David Mills in the city (who was married to Dora/Doris) was married by at least 1927. If this was your family (and I'm not claiming it is), they lived at 2945 NE 55th in Portland, when the picture was taken. He was a furnace salesman.

Thank you so much for the information. Actually Daivd Mills was born about 1927, so it may not be the one.

But the address does help and might shed some more light on the mystery. I do not know if I mentioned it, but no one in the family can really believe that he ever got married to anyone at any time. So this is just the greatest information ever.

I wonder if you found the name of the person or company who bought the business. Just maybe they might have kept some records, maybe the pictures with an address. I mean the negatives for future sales.

Thank you again.

Pat

No, the David Mills I found wouldn't have been the right one, as he was married before 1927, but it's the only David Mills in the Portland City Directory. Sorry.

I tried to figure out who bought the photo studio, and I did; however, it was sold and resold and resold for several years. Still, I've never heard of a photo studio which kept negatives or records for more than about 3 years.

Mr. Shira: Thankk you so much for your efforts. My gosh, it must have been a good business to turn over like that. I wonder how I would find out who the last owner if any would be. Maybe there is a photography association that might have some information I might try that in time. I did have hopes for the negatives maybe turning up in a historical society or something. It is not unheard of at times.

It is strange that David and his wife got married here, but they did not seem to be the city directory. But then if they did not have a phone, and if he shipped back out on board ship, I guess she would probably go back and live with her folks? That could be a possiblity as well. Thank you again for all your help. I will keep trying.

Thank you that is a thought. At the present I am house bound and cannot get out. But I hope that at some time soon I can muster the courage to get out and I very much want to go there.

Thank you again.

Pat; Type in the words Portland Historical Society and see what you come up with. They used to have help for ones that needed it. Cheers! Betty

My Grand Father Robert Barthwell Morton worked at this studio when it was Gladys Gilbert Studio, just wondering if you ever found what businesses owned this building through out the years. I'm trying to find his wife's name because it says that she helped out from time to time and it would be interesting to see what became of this building.
