Hi, Andrea, Thanks for your reply. This is exciting news about your book including Schneiders and Vagniers. There were also Vagnier/Snyders in Perry Co. with whom I am in contact. We are trying to find our common ancestor. I would love to learn more about your book. I'll email you directly. Thanks again.

I am looking for info on the Schmidts of Columbus (German Village and Grandview Heights Village). This is the Frank Schmidt family (not the Fred Schmidt family of "Schmidt's Restaurant" fame). His family (father Leonhard and mother Adelhaid) came to Columbus around 1888 or so from Germany...Frank had sisters that married into the Doersam, Kiefer and Baumert families....
Frank married a Leudegarde Neuschwanger and had at least eight children: Cornelia, Otto, Bertha (Roberts), William, Leo, Rose, Helen & Albert. He died in 1922 and had been president of the Columbus Meat Packing Plant
Any connection?

Regarding the Schmidts, are you certain of the first names Leonhard and Adelhaid? I have a copy of Rudi Jung's Familienbucher that I checked for those first names using either SCHMIDT or SCHMITT, and I did not find them. Many immigrants used either their given or middle name depending on the occasion. I have found many central Ohio immigrant families who came to America in Jung's records. Let me know.

Thanks for looking...
No, unfortunately I'm not sure of the names...I only know what little my dad could tell me and from what I can see on the census records (notoriously misspelled of course) and their gravestones. They were buried in the old catholic Mt Calvary cemetery by Cooper Stadium in Columbus OH. My dad has since passed and I'm hunting and searching. No body really seems to know these Schmidts.
Thanks again!

How did you get the immigration date on your ancestors? If you'd like, I could look up the info on the individuals that look most promising based on first names and birth dates. A lot of the individuals listed show no date of death or name of spouse, which indicates that they migrated somewhere.

I forgot to mention that you should check with St. Joseph Cemetery for a look-up on your ancestors buried in Mt. Calvary. Also, check out the Catholic Records Society web site if you haven't already. La Barquilla offers a surname index that leads to several on-line back issues that listed burials in Mt. Calvary for certain years. You should also visit Holy Family Parish to check their old record books. St. Mary's will not allow you to view their books, but they will do look-ups if you put your request in writing. (These are the two oldest parishes in Columbus, St. Pat's being the third.) Would you mind giving me the info on your relationship to the Doersams and the Baumanns? I have quite a bit of info on them, but many holes as well. Thanks!

I am lookiing for information on the Schneider family. My great grandfather was John Samuel Schneider, who was born 1/31/1860. He married an Amelia Yehle (I get several different spellings). He became a well known photographer in Columbus. I know he had 3 daughters, Marie, Alice and Medora (my maternal grandmother). I can find no information on his wife. I got a copy of his death certificate while in Ohio this summer and learned that his father was John S. Schneider of Galion, Ohio and his mother was Mary Mutchler, born in PA. I have been unable to find any info on these two. There are still relatives from Marie and Alice's family living in Columbus. Alice married George Bobb, who started Bobb Chevrolet. I had lunch with one of Alice's daughers in July. Do you have any information on this line of Schneiders? You can e-mail me direct at: Paige1027@cox.net. Thanks Mimi Bailey
