Most of the houses on Pond Avenue were torn down to
build senior housing many years ago. There are MANY old Murphy families here but I'd need more to go on to help. In fact there are Newport Murphy's somewhere in my family! There are also Harveys still living in Newport

Thanks for responding. My Murphy family had a PJ Murphy who was a state senator, sometime around 1918? Known as Col. Murphy, a plumbing contractor, lived at 169 Broadway. He d 31 Dec 1932. I thought perhaps there would be more published info on him? Or that his house could possibly still be standing. He would have been a great uncle.

Mrs. Patrick (Julia Murphy) Harvey, lived at 44 Mann Avenue. She was a member of Rosary Sodality of St. Jospeh's parish. She was a dressmaker. She died 19 Dec 1942.
There also was a family home at 69 Tilden Ave.

I know the family also attended St Mary's, and I have found some beautiful photos of that.

I would be interested in finding a good book on Newport from the 1870's on...
If you could tell me of any possible leads, or what other historical records are available I would appreciate it!

Coleen, there is Newport Historical Society · (401) 846-0813 · 82 Touro St, Newport. Maybe they can be of help. My mothers maiden name is Murphy but she is from Cumberland. I don't think we are directly related but I do work with a John Murphy who is from Newport, born and raised. He may be related

I am looking for Morleys in Newport,RI and Worcester,MA.
I recently found the baptism of my gg grandfather Daniel Hurley listed under the variant Morley. He was born in Kenmare, County Kerry, 1839.
Your post caught my eye because he married Bridget Healy of Kilorglin in Newport,RI in 1856. The witnesses at the marriage were Peter and Mary Healy Mahoney.
Daniel had a twin brother Michael Morley but I have not found other siblings nor can I find Michael.
Their parents were Jeremiah Morley and Mary Sullivan. Does this ring a bell?
Helen
