Andrew & Elizabeth Lewallen, Scott County, TN

Seeking info on Andrew Lewallen, b. ca. 1829, TN. He & wife Elizabeth (maiden name poss. Lawson) are in 1850 Scott Co, TN census. Their two children in the 1850 census were:

1. Ewel Lewallen (b. ca. Apr 1848, d. 01 Mar 1916, married 09 Mar 1871 to Louisa McCullah)
2. Redin Lewallen (my gr-gr-grandfather) (b. Oct 1849, d. aft. 1910, married Malinda (poss. a Griffith or York, but prev. married to a Jeffers) on 25 Mar 1869 in Scott Co, TN)

[other children include]:

3. Perneta/Pernita "Neetie"/"Needie" Lewallen (b. ca. 1851, d. after 1920, married William Delk on 29 Mar 1873 in Campbell County, TN)
4. Jasper Lewallen (b. ca. 1856, d. 29 Mar 1933, married Mary Jane Delk--sister of William above--on 21 Dec 1873)
5. Andrew Lewallen, Jr. (b. ca. 1858, d. after 1900)
6. Columbus Lewallen (b. ca. 1862, d. unknown)

The 1850 Scott Co, TN census shows Andrew & Elizabeth as having been enumerated "next door" to Sheriff John Lewallen. Perhaps this is indicative of a connection between the two families, but so far the connection is unknown. Sheriff John's brother Andrew was Andrew "L" Lewallen, b. ca. 1793, & therefore not my Andrew. This Andrew "L" also had a son named Andrew Russell Lewallen, but he was b. 28 Oct 1824 & m. Perliscia Anne "Phebe" Davis, and was therefore also not my Andrew.

Any help on my Andrew Lewallen would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks!
John

My records (which are not infallible) indicate that Anderson Lewellen, (1793-1873) the brother of Sheriff John Lewellen, married Melinda “Milla” Davis (1793-1876) in Roane county, TN on 30 Nov 1814. I do not show a second marriage for him or her, and if the records below are accurate there would have been no opportunity for another marriage.

From my notes: “He drew a pension (WC6080) for service in the War of 1812. He applied for a Bounty Land Warrant in Wayne County, Kentucky on 4 Jun 1855 at the age of 61“.

From my notes: “On 21 Jan 1874 Milla Lewallen, aged 81-9/12 years, of Scott Co., TN, applied for a pension. She stated that she was the widow of Andrew Lewallen who died 30 Nov 1873 on Wolf Creek, Scott Co., TN. She stated that she was married under the name Milla Davis to the said Andrew Lewallen on the 30th day of November 1814 by ______________Gearings, J.P. at Roane Co., TN.
On April 7, 1874, John Smith, age 85-5/12 years and Harmon Thompson, age 78-4/12 years, made affidavits that they were well acquainted with Andrew Lewallen before his enlistment and knew him ever since and that they well remembered when he married Milla Davis, although they were not eye witnesses.”

This is not my line, but I record a lot of information concerning “outlying” cousins. The two Reed women that married John Lewellen were the sisters of my GGrandmother, Elizabeth Jane Reed.

I hope this helps.

Thanks, Edw6Smi.

That info matches what I already have, with the exception of that I show the name being ANDREW L. Lewallen (as opposed to ANDERSON Lewallen) who lived 1793-1873, married Malinda Elizabeth Davis, and fought in the War of 1812. ANDERSON was the first name of the FATHER of Andrew L. and Sheriff John.

This is the same Andrew L. Lewallen I'd mentioned in my previous post as being a non-match for "my" Andrew Lewallen. Similarly, Andrew L. Lewallen's son, Andrew R. Lewallen, is also a non-match for "my" Andrew.

But I appreciate your reply very much, and hope to eventually find the parents/line of "my" Andrew Lewallen (b. 1829) and how he possibly connects to these other Lewallens.

Take care, and Happy New Year!
John

Hi, Resa.

I am already a member of that same Lewallen My Family group, and have been for many years. (The group was originally created back in the 1990's, then closed in 2001, and then re-opened by new moderator/owner last September.

I have posted my query with them as well (at least, in the earlier incarnation of the group), and no one has ever been able to connect my Andrew Lewallen (b. ca. 1829) with the other Lewallens of Scott County.

Thanks anyway,
I appreciate you taking the time to reply,
John

Have you still not been able to connect your Andrew with the other Lewallens of Scott County, TN? I, too, cannot connect my Matthew Lewallen, who lived in Scott County in 1850, with other Lewallens who were there. I am a member of the Lewallen Family Website also. My cousin submitted the DNA test to Family Tree DNA. We did not match with any of the Lewallens there either BUT did match with Davises. There were Davises in the Morgan/Scott County area and several Davis/Lewallen marriages. Have you tried submitting DNA?

Hi, bgriffin75_1
No, I've still had no luck in connecting my Andrew to the other Lewallens of Scott County. I am also a member of the Lewallen MyFamily website. DNA testing has been discussed there, and I had made an initial post/suggestion to 3 of my male Lewallen cousins but hadn't followed up on it. I've taken part in a couple of other DNA tests (unrelated to Lewallens) and have been frustrated by the complexity of the results, as well as the lack of any connections or helpful results. At some point I may follow-up with my cousins for testing of their Lewallen DNA, but for now I've just been concentrating on seeking historical documentation.
Thanks,
John
