Drake
Ridge is in southeastern
Spencer Co., and there are still Drake's there. I also found in Mary Francis Brown's book, History of
Spencer Co., a paragraph on The old Benjamin
Drake home (northeastern
Spencer Co.) on the
Spencer, Bullitt,
Jefferson line, 1/4 mile north off
Plum Creek and 1 mile NW of Wilsonville. I could pinpoint it if you were that interested.
Any way, Benjamin
Drake and his wife Mary "
Polly"
Riley were buried there, along with a
McKinley family. The farm joined the Col. Stilwell
Heady farm....(add. info about the house)....Benjamin was the father of John Clayton
Drake. (there is a picture) Co. Stilwell
Heady was a Legislature in 1833-1837 and
Senate 1828-1850, large land owner.
I would assume that this would be Emily's family. There are not dates, but I would estimate it to be around mid 1800's, because of the
Stilwell Heady reference.
There is a J.C. Drake listed in the
Spencer Co. Atlas of 1882 which states that he lived on Salt River, precinct Camp Branch, PO of Smileytown and settled
Spencer in 1825. This is the above mentioned
Drake Ridge area of
Ashes Creek near
Nelson Co.
There was a W. Drake living in the
Goodwin Springs Precinct in 1882 which is now Hwy 623 (
Lilly Pike).
