King Messier

Christmas- King T. Messier, 70 of Christmas, died early Saturday morning at the veterans hospital in Iron Mountain following a three-week illness.

He was born Jan 6, 1913, in Marquette and had lived most of his life in the Munising area. For the past 23 years he lived in Mount Clemens. He attended the Munising schools and was employed as a heavy equpment mechanic at Sawyer Air Force Base, retiring in 1979. He also worked as a mechanic for the Detroit Edison Co. in Mount Clemens for 13 years. He was a member of the Roderick Prato Post No. 131 American Legion, AuTrain Post No. 16 VFW and the Munising Moose Lodge. His former wife, Ruth Robare, died in August, 1958.

Survivors include his wife, Olive E Seymour, to whom he was married Jan 2, 1960; three step-daughters, Mrs. Glen (Ruth)Graves. of Northville, and Mrs. Carl (Mariellen) Maki and Nancy Pilger, both of Rochester, Minn; three sisters, Elsie Landau and Elizabeth Shreve, both of St. Petersburg, Fla, and Mrs. Maynard (Lucille) Beaudry of Pontiac; 10 grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p. m. Wednesday at the Bowerman Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Raymond Moncher to officiate. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery with American Legion services at graveside.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Tuesday. A parish vigil will be conducted at 7 p.m.

King Messier was my Uncle King - thank you for reprinting this article as I have been living overseas since 1981 and had never read it before. I visited his wife, my Aunt Olive on several of my trips to America in the years since before she too died. My mother, Lucille mentioned in the article recently died in March 2009. Only Elizabeth Shreve is currently alive now and lives in Frankenmuth, Michigan.
